Keep Calm & Think BIG

keep calm and think big

Many people I meet had BIG plans for 2014, however they feel that the year is slipping and its too late to start.

“Its Never to late!” is my response, “Start today, let me help you”

Take some time out, use MindStore’s tools to manage your stress, and begin to access your right brain and Think Big.

Like Donald Trump’s quote at the end of this newsletter, why think small. Who are we to think small we were all given an amazing capacity to do be and have more in our business and personal lives if we would just Think Big.

As Marianne Williamson wrote:
“Your playing small does not serve the world”

Think Big and set Big Goals

This month we focus on Thinking Big.

If you would like to know more I recommend the above book at our sessions as a fantastic and informative read.
This is the link to Amazon for more information:

A simple concept that is difficult to begin with. Mainly because it requires a change of attitude and mindset.
Many of us adults, if we are honest, are used to thinking small, safe, keeping within our comfort zones. Kids however automatically Think Big. My youngest son IS going to be an airline pilot for Jetstar.

He can see the benefits of this, a big WHY for him. His positive attitude causes him not to think about the challenges he faces to achieve this big goal. His WHY is so he can fly Mum and Dad around Australia! Do you think I will encourage this goal or dismiss it?
We can learn so much from this type of thinking. How many of us think about goals for our professional and personal lives only to have our experience of life make us reduce the size of our goals.

The fear of failure kicks in, the Self Doubt. Why do we let this happen?

Remember Winston Churchill said “Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference”

On the 10th of this month, pause for a second with your mobile phone to think of the Scotsman who invented “talking with electricity” Alexander Graham Bell.
Back in the 1870’s he thought Big and had a Big Goal to improve on the telegraph as a method of communication and overcame many challenges to invent the telephone.

So take a moment to think of what a Big Goal that must have been for him and the ability he had to Think Big, develop a positive Can Do Attitude and mindset to keep going to achieve his goal.

If you would like some more details our MindStore Goal setting planner is available with our compliments. Simply email us your postal address to: enquires@mindstoreaustralia.com and we would be delighted to send one out to you.

Then you will know….. IT JUST WORKS!

A final thought……
Think Big like Donald Trump

Two final thoughts this month, first the caption above.
Second is: What were the first words spoken over the telephone by Alexander Graham Bell?
” Mr.Watson.. come here… I want to see you”
Is this maybe what inspired John Logie Baird set his goal to invent Television? Who knows?

Goal setting workshop

Below is the first part of the MindStore workshop on goal setting, from Jack Black in the UK,MindStore’s founder.
Goal Setting Workshop

ReplyTools and TechniquesDecember 30th, 2013admin

After 25 Years, half a million people, hundreds and hundreds of companies covering every sector and at every level of their organisations – if what I have been teaching was nonsense I would have been found out long before now.

So just do it! Just get into the swing with the global phenomena of resolutions and goal setting going on over the comings days.

Do it the MindStore way and more importantly commit to practice the reinforcement techniques and create your best year yet. Become empowered to deal with no matter what. Attract the right people at the right time, the solutions and ideas required and sometimes with wonder and joy manifest, yes manifest what you truly desire.

Follow the process below and simply trust it. I haven’t got the time in an email to go into the whys and the wherefores; so please just get on with it. If you are new to our approach then maybe just decide to trust the person who tipped you off.

So first – If you haven’t already done so do some clearing out. Create space for the future in your crammed up life. Empty out your rubble drawer, you know the one, it’s probably in the kitchen with the paper clip a rubber band, the pen that doesn’t work, the instructions to the kettle and all the other stuff that’s trapped in there. Just turn it upside down and empty it into the bin. It will like your cleared out wardrobe, garage, garden hut, loft, computer files, contact lists etc. etc. just fill up with new stuff. Please understand if there is no space where can new stuff go? And be absolutely honest with yourself most of the stuff you don’t need nor will you ever really use again.

Second – Plot a MindStore Wheel of Life. To do this just draw a big circle with 12 spokes. Give each spoke a scale of 1-10 with 1 at the centre and 10 on the circumference. Give yourself a 1-10 score for each of the following 12 key areas of life (trust me these are the ones that count!).

Marriage or Partnership – Family – Social life – Personal Development- Career- Attitude – Health – Finances – Home – Happiness – Recreation – Spiritual.

Once you have completed this exercise you will then see where you are out of balance, and therefore it will be obvious where some of your goals need to be set.

Third – Create a gratification list. Find 3 things for each spoke of the wheel that you are genuinely grateful for. You can do this as a chart with the headings – Item, Why it’ so important to you, How you can enhance it.

Fourth – Take the time and its only 11 short minutes to write out at least 30 goals. This is absolutely critical and it must be done with the correct intention. Again I have no space in this email to explain why – so please just do it! Set the timer on your phone or an alarm on your clock. You can even play some nice relaxing music as it may help you with this process.

Starts writing out the goals you already have in mind – however you will find that you soon run out of them! Then look at your Wheel of Life and it will become obvious where you can find some more. You will again run out of ideas so now just imagine that you are given 100 million pounds in cash if you could finish with at least 30 goals inside what’s remaining of the 11 minutes. Just start to “make them up” especially write down the ones that come into your mind and that you are already telling yourself are impossible. If it comes into your mind then accept it and write it down. Please just trust the process.

Now leave these 30 plus goals for 24 hours or at least overnight. Read them to yourself just before bed even begin to imagine them being achieved already.

Next step and it’s a big step -the next day filter or narrow down the goals into 7 primary ones. Now here is the great MindStore approach we don’t concern ourselves with HOW we are going to achieve them, we don’t even think about a strategy, we do however take the time to identify and even write out WHY we really, really desire them.

Once you have identified the 7 key goals write them out once again with a full explanation to yourself as to why you really want them to come into your life. Do all of this over the coming days, preferably before the big clock chimes 12 midnight on the 31st of December.

On the 2nd or 3rd of January I will email you the second phase of this process – which works and will work for you too!

If you want to send this to friends and family then feel free – all I ask is you let them know its source.

All the very best and a Happy, Prosperous and Healthy 2014 to you and all you care for.

Keep Smiling Smile

“Everyone needs some Time Out”

Many of you commented on last months newsletter and the challenge of being too busy to block time for yourself in your Calendars.

This months we continue by encouraging everyone to take some time out. Time to refocus on the positives and look forward with renewed energy for the next half of the year.

All the Best

Damian and the team at MindStore Australia.

Use MindStore's toolkit to be creative like Picasso

Use MindStore’s toolkit to be creative like Picasso

Several people who contacted us last month were challenged by May’s newsletter, regarding blocking time to think in their Calender.

I understand for many this is challenging, its different and it requires a change of thinking.

And that’s exactly WHY we all need to do it.

We all know the quote “Change your thinking, Change your life”.

If we don’t or won’t change, how can we expect things to be different.

With the cooler weather in many parts of Australia in the evening instead of reaching for the remote control, Why not have a TIME OUT…Take time out with MindStore Australia

not a chocolate bar, but some time out for you.

Everyone needs time to recharge, to review, to reassess and to reflect.

With the focus in business on the upcoming end of financial year, its an ideal time to take this time out for yourself.

Challenge yourself to sit in your bedroom and close your eyes, focus on your breathing, concentrate on breathing and resist the tendency for your mind to  “wander” manage your thinking. Your Mind is a huge Store for Creative Innovative thinking, practise accessing it for improved quality time to recharge, to review your day to see that you did the best you could and to reassess your next day and reflect on how you could think, listen and act with greater clarity to achieve more.

Remember  its true ” Everyone needs some time out”

Book Review:

Drive- The surprising truth about what motivates us by Daniel Pink

This is an ideal book to dip in and out of after your TIME OUT time.

Enlightening and full of ideas about changing our thinking and how we are motivated to achieve more.

Think … before saying Yes to a meeting request

Many of you will remember that last month was about great quotes to inspire Innovation.

This months thought is about being Mindful in May. In a short example consider making time to think about your appointments Calendar and maybe blocking out some time to THINK. Sounds radical I hear you say!

Welcome also to everyone from the Miners Health and Wellbeing Conference who have joined our Newsletter this month.

Finally I trust you are all going to motivate yourselves to make time to have a Magnificent May!

thinking monkey THINK….

THINK….

THINK

Ever heard yourself or collegues saying ” I don’t have time to think” or “I can’t hear myself think”

As you can imagine, your not alone. Often when working with clients a common issue people raise is their work Calendar. Meeting after meeting seems inevitable. As this is May how about thinking about being more Mindful of your Calendar.

Dare yourself to say NO to a meeting request, and use that time for reflection on current challenges with space to THINK.

Also challenge yourself to think about each appointment before accepting it.

Is it carved in stone, who set it for you?

How many do we attend even when others in our team attend?

Do we attend because in our organisations culture, everyone needs to know everything?

Do we believe that if someone thinks we are needed in a meeting, we cannot turn it down, we are leaders so we must be required?

busy outlook calander

Why not open your calendar, take a deep breath and pause for a moment, do you feel your chest, neck or stomach tighten just by looking at the volume of appointments. What is that telling us, if we listen? Is it good for us?

Is this the best use of our time? Are we effective leaders if we allow ourselves to be in 8 meetings a day 5 days a week. Where do we have space to lead, to think differently, to innovate.

How different would your week be if you questioned the volume of meetings, delegated more, intentionally left spaces in your week for connecting with colleagues and reports face to face. What do you feel the impact would be if you made space in your day to ask if there was better ways to do things, more productively, more socially responsible, more profitably?

As Wayne Dyer said “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”

Book of the Month:

Use Your Head by Tony Buzan

Several people asked about MindMaps after last months Newsletter. So here is an easy to read book by the inventor of Mindmaps. Full of great examples and easy ways to develop this great tool yourself.

Here is a link to the book:

A final thought………..

“Live   your life each day as you would climb a mountain. An occassional glance   towards the summit keeps the goal in mind, but many beautiful scenes are to   be gained from each new vantage point” Unknown

” Inspire a Generation”

As you will remember last month was about managing Stress using some of googles Secrets.

This month I was inspired by the Paralympics which run from 29th August – 9th September.

Read about the fastest man on no legs, and his amazing motto for life.

Thanks for making the time to read this, I appreciate it’s one of many in your inbox. We always aim to make your time reading it inspiring, motivational, worthwhile and give you something to think about and hopefully take some action too!

Have an Spectacular September from Damian and the MindStore Australia Team

“Your not disabled by the disabilites you have; you are able by the abilities you have” Oscar Pistorius

This amazing quote comes from Oscar Postorius. He also goes by the name of “Blade Runner” or the “fastest man on no legs” He is a double leg amputee who has inspired a generation.

He has overcome significant physical and mental challenges to achieve his dream. Imagine how out of his comfort zone he has come to achieve his vision. He can run 100m in 11.04seconds. Next time you are feeling athletic have a go and see how long it takes you to run 100 metres. By the way, Usain Bolt the olypmic record holder does it in 9.63 seconds.

Next time you feel yourself saying you can’t, remember Oscars motto to inspire you to do be and have more in your life.

If you would like to know more about the creation of useful mental habits, and improving performance through simple mental tools and techniques then give us a call at MindStore. We would be glad to arrange a time to have a conversation.

We are in the last quarter of 2012. What have you or your teams achieved in the field of personal development and growth so far? If like many people you could be doing more, then make time now to find out how MindStores toolkit will help your people access simple tools to improve the performance and leadership skills of their teams, departments and the organisation as a whole.

Remember by empowering people you transform organisations.

At MindStore we fundamanentally believe that “All performance is due to the quality of our thinking”.

Dare yourself to unleash more of the amazing capacity you and your teams have inside yourselves to improve your performance and to do be and have more in your business and personal lives.

Until next time, thanks again for taking time out in your day to read this newsletter.

Have a Spectacular September!

Blade Runner by Oscar Pistorius

Although this was published in 2009 before he achieved his goal of competing in the able bodied Olympics, this is a very inspiring read. His journey through extraodrinary challenges is a lesson for us all to focus on our goals and vision and not give up. Rightly voted as one of Time magazines 2008 “100 most influential people.”

June 2012 Newsletter

Here’s to the crazy ones…

Last month was Innovation Month.

It’s gone now, but that shouldn’t mean that we stop thinking about innovation and creative thinking. Set yourself time each week to think creatively and innovate. Even if that means picking up a coloured pen and sketching or doodling a mindmap or drawing of where you see yourself in 10 years time. What will you do be and have.

Have fun doing it, the importnat part is to DO IT!

Recently when preparing a presentation I revisited Steve Jobs life and times. So for June we will focus on the crazy ones.. who see things differently.. think differently.. think they can change the world.. and do.

Damain and the MindStore Australia Team

New Thinking for your organisation- THINK DIFFERENT

Do you remember this advert?

Time to Think Different using MindStore tools

Can you believe it was 15 years ago!

Think about how much has changed around us in that time?

How much have we changed in the same period of time?

I don’t mean the grey hairs creeping in or the laughter lines, I mean have we changed in attitude, our behaviours, our thinking.

Have we become more open thinking, or more close minded. Think about it.

Decide to make a change for the better. Change happens when you decide to change with your heart and mind, not when you are told to. So decide for yourself, take charge.

Now you see how fast paced our lives have become.

This one minute advert started with the phrase here’s to the crazy one’s….

Take one minute to watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oAB83Z1ydE

and be inspired: think about what you are going to change, to change our world!

If you want a further boost, take 15 minutes out of your life and watch and listen to Steve Jobs Stamford Commencement Speech: http://youtu.be/D1R-jKKp3NA

6.9million people have viewed it and I bet many were inspired to take action. You see, to have motivation or be motivated is one thing, but you need to take action, so you need momentum more than just motivation. Find something that ignites your passions, and pushes all your buttons making you want to keep going over any hurdles or obstacles that you come across.

“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.” – Einstein.

So if in our businesses and organisations we are facing challenges (problems) then we need different thinking from the type which created them. Time to THINK DIFFERENT.

As we approach the new financial year, take time now to contact us and find out how our mental tools and techniques can be applied in your teams and departments to enable everyone to discover and apply methods to think different.

Have a Joyful June!

January 2012 Newsletter

HAPPY NEW YEAR – Heres to a fantastic 2012!

The world has watched Sydneys spectacular themed display TIME TO DREAM

This re-minded me of how critical it is to make time in our busy lives to Dream, to use our whole brain for greater access to innovation and creativity in our lives.

It also re-minded me to keep my written goals up to date, to view them every day, and to visualise in the present my goals being achieved, even though they have yet to be achieved. This is what we call a FUTURE HISTORY.

Let us be inspired by the fantastic sound and colours of the Sydney NYE Fireworks to enable us to “see” our goals every day in our minds eye, even when they seem furthest away from being achieved.

“Most people give up just when they are about to achieve success. They quit on the one yard line. They give up at the last minute of the game, one foot from a winning touch down.” Ross Perot.

Have a Dream 2012!

Damain and the MindStore Australia Team

What are your dreams for 2012?

What do you Dream about when you sleep?

Do you go to sleep dreaming about achieving your goals?

Following on from last months newsletter about resolutions.

Take time in the next few days to think about your Dreams for 2012.

Write them down and then look at them every day. Have some fun, add a few photos of what the dream/goal will look like when you achieve it.

When you fall asleep like my oldest son Alastair, dream and when you wake up write your dreams down, they can be pointers/ stepping stones towards your goals and dreams for 2012.

What ever your Dreams are for 2012, we wish you success with them and if you would like further information about setting and achieving your goals drop me a line at enquiries@mindstoreaustralia.com

A Whole New Mind – why right brainers will rule the future by Daniel Pink

A new book for a new year about a whole new mind.

This book  was a great read, I didn’t want to put it down. It describes a shift taking place, where we are moving from an economy and society built on logical capabilities of the Information age, to an economy and society built on inventive, empathetic, big picture capabilites, the Conceptual Age.

It is available on Amazon for $11, less than the cost of a fast food lunch, and the content is much more satisfying. For many it highlights what you already felt happening, for others it will be enlightening, challenging and encouraging.

Buy it here:http://www.amazon.com/Whole-New-Mind-Right-Brainers-Future/dp/1594481717

I would like to thank my friend and fellow Scot, John Flett for giving me this book as a gift. http://www.flettconsulting.com.au/
