Are you too Busy to Improve?

Are you too busy to improve

As you may remember our last update focused on the power of Mental Rehersal for Performance Improvement. Using mental tools to improve performance from Ordinary to Extraordinary.

This time we continue by focusing on another Ordinary guy born in London in 1950 who has gone on to do some Extraordinary things. You may have heard of him!

Thank you for making the time to read this, and I encourage you to look into our mental tools for improving performance for you personally and for the people in your organisation.

Every time I hear someone in a business meeting tell me how busy they are, I think of this guy.

The man who recently said he makes time in his daily schedule to talk a walk for an hour every morning to think about his day.

He walks around Necker Island  which he owns in the Caribbean and his name is Richard Branson of the Virgin Group of Companies.

Now you would have to agree that he is a busy guy and that time is his most precious commodity.

branson as airline hostess

YET he sees the value of taking time out to think every morning during his walks.

Now if someone who many call extraordinary is doing this, who are we to say we are to busy to do this?

MindStore members will be familiar with this idea of taking time out on waking to think about the day and to “program their day

He also, like Mindstore members around the world, take’s time to Catnap and Day dream, this enables him to re-energise his mind and body as well as making time to dream about his passions.

And the last secret of his success is that he carries a note pad to take notes whenever they come to his mind and to clarify his thinking. Just like our MindStore Night Book based on Edisons Pad.

Hopefully in this short update you can see that if someone who is very busy and very successful does exactly the same things that our MIndStore course participants do, and he can make time to do it because he sees it to be important, then we too can learn to make time in our busy lives for these important routines.

Wouldn’t you like to have these tools too?

Imagine how you could improve your personal and professional performance at those critical times if you had the tools to mentally program your day, take catnaps to re-energise and reduce stress and operate at your peak performance outside your comfort zone.

Well you can by inviting MindStore into your workplace to deliver a custom designed workshop for you, your leadership team and your people at all levels.

As I keep saying, Organisations are groups of people, when you inspire and empower the people you transform the organisation.

We too can learn to improve our performance. One of our best MindStore tools is within what we call our House on the Right Bank. This for those who have not attended one of our workshops is a place we create in our minds, on the Right side of our brain , the creative intuitive imaginative side. Where we can mentally rehearse our day, see our goals and manage our stress.  Contact us to find out more.

If you think this is out there and different, then you are right. Einstein said two things, one is that “Imagination is more important than knowledge” and this is what  we are using in these tools.

and secondly he said that “we can not solve our problems with the same level of thinking that created them”.

So what we do is deliberately designed to be different, out of the ordinary, because if the ordinary things we have done in the past still worked we would all be doing much better.

At MindStore we are passionate about helping everyone to rekindle that way of thinking to improve performance from Ordinary to Extraordinary, so think about contacting us to be involved in your next Learning and Development event. Feel Free to contact us now on the form  below or use it to comment on this post.

Mental Rehearsal- The Secret of Success

Mental Rehearsal the Secret of Success

istockphoto

Mental rehearsal is the secret to success in your personal life, and career.

With the fantastic Commonwealth Games from Glasgow there have been numerous images of the competitors closing there eyes just before their event.

This is not out of fear like we might, or to pray, it is a specific tool they use to visualise them winning the event.

They are mentally rehearsing what they have practised hundreds of times to ensure a peak performance now, when it counts.

The strength of mind to do this amongst the excitement, anticipation and stress of the event is what makes them Extraordinary achievers.

Outside of the Commonwealth Games, look at Formula One drivers like Lewis Hamilton and the late Ayrton Senna.

In football David Beckham is often seen closing his eyes just before one of his amazing free kicks.

In golf Tiger Woods used to regularily close his eyes during his practise swing.

Do you see the pattern?

Extraordinary people use tools like mental rehearsal to deliver Extraordinary results.

Wouldn’t you like to have these tools too?

Imagine how you could improve your personal and professional performance at those critical times if you had the tools to mentally rehearse your activity before hand.

Well you can by inviting MindStore into your workplace to deliver a custom designed workshop for you, your leadership team and people at all levels.

As I keep saying, Organisations are groups of people, when you inspire and empower the people you transform the organisation.

We too can learn to use Mental Rehearsal to improve our performance. One of our best MindStore tools is within what we call our House on the Right Bank. This for those who have not attended one of our workshops is a place we create in our minds, on the Right side of our brain , the creative intuitive imaginative side. Where we can mentally rehearse the event  that is so important to us in our life.  Contact us to find out more.

and secondly he said that “we can not solve our problems with the same level of thinknig that created them”.

So what we do is deliberately designed to be different, out of the ordinary, because if the ordinary things we have done in the past still worked we would all be doing much better.

It takes mental rehersal to improve performance from Ordinary to Extraordinary.

This tool delivers fantastic results.

At MindStore we are passionate about helping everyone to rekindle that way of thinking so think about inviting us to be involved in your next learning and development event.

“Thoughts are Things”

Thoughts are things

istockphoto

With all the coverage of the FIFA world cup I wanted to include in this update some comments from the world of football on thinking, the mind and imagination.

The first person who came to my mind was the famous Scotsman Bill Shankly who all Liverpool FC fans will remember. As well as his quote at the end of this update he also described his unbelieveable pride when playing for Scotland against “the auld enemy ” England. The players would become William Wallace or Robert the Bruce for 90 minutes after pulling on the Blue Scotland jersey. This was noted by football commentators who said ” Bill (Shankly) is a real Scotland player who fights until he drops”

Do you remember when you were younger, when Wimbledon was on imagining being Boris Becker or Martina Navratalova?

Did you play better at football when you got to be Maradona or Beckham?

This ability to use our imagination to improve our performance has been scientifically proven.

The ability to think and use our imagination to improve our results is a powerful tool. At Mindstore we train adults to re-mind themselves of these skills in our workshops and development days.

The truth is that we all had these skills as children, active powerful right brains, the creative, imaginative side but as we grow older most of us stop using it or trusting it.

At MindStore we are passionate about helping everyone to rekindle that way of thinking so the next time you are faced with a challenge at work you can take a few moments to use these tools and then come out, rip open your shirt and have a big red S underneath!

Thoughts are things!

Empowering People…. Transforming Organisations

Empowering People ..Transforming Organisations

istockphoto

As you all know June is more than just a good time for bargains at the Sales. It is end of the financial year and the business focus is squarely on organisations at this time of year.

At MindStore we believe that the focus should be on the Individuals, the human beings that bring the uniqueness of their mind to the organisation. That person’s mind when inspired has the ability to innovate and create solutions for all of the organisations present and future challenges.

Organisations we speak with get this. The ones who have the vision to invest in the area of the business with the greatest capacity for performance improvement. PEOPLE. Having the vision to provide training which Empowers People. These are the ones who make the changes, overcome the challenges and become or continue to be the market leaders.

We are all unique as our fingerprints, and we all have an amazing capacity to do, be and have more in our professional and personal lives. The secret is in unlocking the potential in our mind, this requires simple tools to change our mindset, think, act and speak more positively. Develop tools to manage our stress and re-engage with our creative imaginative right brain to create solutions to overcome organisations challenges and in turn empower people and transform organisations.

If your organisation wants the next Financial Year to have higher engagement, higher productivity and lower staff turnover then take action today and call us to arrange a suitable time to have an initial conversation.

Back to the Future, like Mohammad Ali

back to the future with MindStore

Can you remember when this came out in 1985?

If so can you believe that the future they visited is next year (2015!)

This re-minded me of the great Mohammad Ali who we discuss later.

Create your Future History

istockphoto

Continuing with our tools to set and achieve our goals, we look at our FUTURE HISTORY or Going Back to your future.

The ability to close your eyes and see in your minds eye, your right side, the creative imaginative side of your brain, the goal you have being achieved.

What will it feel like, look like?

What sights sounds smells with there be?

Who will be there?

This is one of Mohammad Ali’s secrets to his extraordinary success.

The mental ability to repeatedly see in his minds eye a goal being achieved, before it happens.

This give us the confidence to see goals as a “Future History” as Ali said.

It is an event in the future, its not happened yet, but he had visualised it and replayed it so many times in his mind that for him it was already history, already achieved.

This is a powerful mental technique for goal settting and achieving.

How did he do it?

Ali tells us that when he signed a contract for a fight, he would immediately find somewhere quiet, close his eyes and bring up into his imagination the moment when his goal is achieved. In his case when knocked out George Foreman in the 8th round at the famous Rumble in the Jungle in 1974

And that vision, that ability to see a Future History inspired him, whenever anyone asked him a question doubting his ability to win, or any negative thoughts entered his mind.

He could see Foreman on the canvas floor, feel the vibration of the deck, hear the roar of the crowd, smell the linament on his skin, see the flashbulbs of cameras, feel the pain his body had taken, taste the sweat and blood in his mouth guard.

All his senses were stimulated in his imagination , it was such a clear vision of a future event.

This desire to win, belief and expectation that he would achieve his goal enabled him to achieve what many called “the greatest sporting event of the 20th century”

So this month of May what will you see and tell people you will do be or have before you actually achieve them?

There is a challenge for you? Are you up for it? Have you had enough of the same old? What really inspires you? Will you make time to think differently about your goals and learn how to see with the clarity of Mohammed Ali and develop your own Future History?

Its your’s no one elses so take control.

If you would like some more details our MindStore Goal setting planner it is available with our compliments. Simply email us your postal address to: enquires@mindstoreaustralia.com and we would be delighted to send one out to you.

Why WHY is the most important Question!

Discover your WHY at Mindstore.

When we take time to think about about our Goals, about what we would like to be do and have, many times questions pop into our mind. That little inner voice we all have even if you do not admit to it.

Often its HOW:

How are you going to do that?

How are you going to achieve this?

How can you afford this?

How can this possibly work?

Sound familiar? Can you hear the negative tone your inner voice has when you read these words out? Its so familiar for us all. Often those we have the confidence to share our goals with will ask us the same question without thinking.

And we start to wonderdoubt and fear takes over. We think, maybe my inner voice is right? maybe my friends are correct? am I being silly thinking big like this? maybe I should just set a smaller, manageable, reachable goal…….

Well STOP , because one of the secrets of extraordinary successful people is that they do not ask the question HOW? They thought differently and replaced it with WHY?

In the begining most of them when they set out their huge goals, like Mandela, Branson, Jobs, Obama… they did not know HOW, but they knew WHY.

Why do this?

Why this will help my business?

Why this will benefit my family?

Why sacrifice my evenings for this goal?

Why will this benefit my country?

Why is it best for all?

Why our customers will buy it?

Why Why Why Why… That is the Question to ask!

And that’s the question that inspired them, gave them a passion for the goal and a reason to overcome any challenges until it was achieved.

So today, do not ask HOW ask WHY then you will be thinking differently like extraordinary people. And you will be AWESOME.

This is another simple concept that people often find challenging to begin with. Mainly because it requires a change of thinking, attitude and mindset.

Many of us adults, if we are honest, are used to thinking small, safe, keeping within our comfort zones.  Kids however automatically Think Big. My youngest son IS going to be an airline pilot for Jetstar.

His positive attitude causes him not to think about the challenges he faces to achieve this big goal. He absolutely sees all the positive of achieving this goal, he can see clearly his WHY, he does not give any negative thoughts to HOW. His WHY is so he can fly Mum and Dad around Australia! Do you think I will encourage this goal or poo- hoo and dismiss it?

Another little boy told his dad when he was aged 5 that he wanted to be a Formula One driver when he grew up. His dad backed him and helped him with his WHY, his dad did not ask the negative HOW question which crushes so many goals and aspirations. The boys name is Lewis Hamilton, a World champion Formula 1 driver.

Keep Calm & Think BIG

keep calm and think big

Many people I meet had BIG plans for 2014, however they feel that the year is slipping and its too late to start.

“Its Never to late!” is my response, “Start today, let me help you”

Take some time out, use MindStore’s tools to manage your stress, and begin to access your right brain and Think Big.

Like Donald Trump’s quote at the end of this newsletter, why think small. Who are we to think small we were all given an amazing capacity to do be and have more in our business and personal lives if we would just Think Big.

As Marianne Williamson wrote:
“Your playing small does not serve the world”

Think Big and set Big Goals

This month we focus on Thinking Big.

If you would like to know more I recommend the above book at our sessions as a fantastic and informative read.
This is the link to Amazon for more information:

A simple concept that is difficult to begin with. Mainly because it requires a change of attitude and mindset.
Many of us adults, if we are honest, are used to thinking small, safe, keeping within our comfort zones. Kids however automatically Think Big. My youngest son IS going to be an airline pilot for Jetstar.

He can see the benefits of this, a big WHY for him. His positive attitude causes him not to think about the challenges he faces to achieve this big goal. His WHY is so he can fly Mum and Dad around Australia! Do you think I will encourage this goal or dismiss it?
We can learn so much from this type of thinking. How many of us think about goals for our professional and personal lives only to have our experience of life make us reduce the size of our goals.

The fear of failure kicks in, the Self Doubt. Why do we let this happen?

Remember Winston Churchill said “Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference”

On the 10th of this month, pause for a second with your mobile phone to think of the Scotsman who invented “talking with electricity” Alexander Graham Bell.
Back in the 1870’s he thought Big and had a Big Goal to improve on the telegraph as a method of communication and overcame many challenges to invent the telephone.

So take a moment to think of what a Big Goal that must have been for him and the ability he had to Think Big, develop a positive Can Do Attitude and mindset to keep going to achieve his goal.

Think Big like Donald Trump

Two final thoughts this month, first the caption above.
Second is: What were the first words spoken over the telephone by Alexander Graham Bell?
” Mr.Watson.. come here… I want to see you”
Is this maybe what inspired John Logie Baird set his goal to invent Television? Who knows?

SETTING INSPIRING GOALS

Inspiring Goals that provide direction are the foundation of peak performance

If January has slipped by Fear not.

Now is the time to take action and set those inspiring goals for 2014.

This month we focus on Goal Setting using the MindStore method.

We know that extraordinary people all around the world presently or from history had written goals.

Q: Do you know anyone who leaps out of bed in the morning with a PASSION for a realistic and achievable goal?

A: I don’t, no one does.

It is those who can see huge goals for themselves or their company that know WHY they want to achieve them that are inspired to keep striving to achieve their goals.

Be like them, with some help from MindStore.

Further expanded details and explanations can be found by clicking this link: http://wp.me/p1rqWW-fj

1.Start by clearing out some space, physically and mentally for your future.

2. Draw a MindStore Wheel of Life and plot where you are now.

3.Discover areas where you are out of balance.

4. Create a gratification list for each area.

5. Take 11 focused minutes to write down 30 goals.

6.Narrow goals from 30 to 7, Focus on WHY not HOW.

7. Finally write out a full description of WHY you want to achieve each Goal.

We all have an amazing capacity to do be and have more. We just need to have a passion for our goals that inspire us, then set and follow your plan.

If you would like some more details our MindStore Goal setting planner is available with our compliments. Simply email us your postal address to: enquires@mindstoreaustralia.com and we would be delighted to send one out to you.

Goal Setting Workshop part one

Part one of the MindStore workshop. extract from Blog posted by Jack Black, founder of MindStore.
This workshop expands on the tips on the February MindStore Newsletter.

After 25 Years, half a million people, hundreds and hundreds of companies covering every sector and at every level of their organisations – if what I have been teaching was nonsense I would have been found out long before now.

So just do it! Just get into the swing with the global phenomena of resolutions and goal setting going on over the comings days.

Do it the MindStore way and more importantly commit to practice the reinforcement techniques and create your best year yet. Become empowered to deal with no matter what. Attract the right people at the right time, the solutions and ideas required and sometimes with wonder and joy manifest, yes manifest what you truly desire.

Follow the process below and simply trust it. I haven’t got the time in an post to go into the whys and the wherefores; so please just get on with it. If you are new to our approach then maybe just decide to trust the person who tipped you off.

So first – If you haven’t already done so do some clearing out. Create space for the future in your crammed up life. Empty out your rubble drawer, you know the one, it’s probably in the kitchen with the paper clip a rubber band, the pen that doesn’t work, the instructions to the kettle and all the other stuff that’s trapped in there. Just turn it upside down and empty it into the bin. It will like your cleared out wardrobe, garage, garden hut, loft, computer files, contact lists etc. etc. just fill up with new stuff. Please understand if there is no space where can new stuff go? And be absolutely honest with yourself most of the stuff you don’t need nor will you ever really use again.

Second – Plot a MindStore Wheel of Life. To do this just draw a big circle with 12 spokes. Give each spoke a scale of 1-10 with 1 at the centre and 10 on the circumference. Give yourself a 1-10 score for each of the following 12 key areas of life (trust me these are the ones that count!).

Marriage or Partnership – Family – Social life – Personal Development- Career- Attitude – Health – Finances – Home – Happiness – Recreation – Spiritual.

Once you have completed this exercise you will then see where you are out of balance, and therefore it will be obvious where some of your goals need to be set.

Third – Create a gratification list. Find 3 things for each spoke of the wheel that you are genuinely grateful for. You can do this as a chart with the headings – Item, Why it’ so important to you, How you can enhance it.

Fourth – Take the time and its only 11 short minutes to write out at least 30 goals. This is absolutely critical and it must be done with the correct intention. Again I have no space in this post to explain why – so please just do it! Set the timer on your phone or an alarm on your clock. You can even play some nice relaxing music as it may help you with this process.

Starts writing out the goals you already have in mind – however you will find that you soon run out of them! Then look at your Wheel of Life and it will become obvious where you can find some more. You will again run out of ideas so now just imagine that you are given 100 million pounds in cash if you could finish with at least 30 goals inside what’s remaining of the 11 minutes. Just start to “make them up” especially write down the ones that come into your mind and that you are already telling yourself are impossible. If it comes into your mind then accept it and write it down. Please just trust the process.

Now leave these 30 plus goals for 24 hours or at least overnight. Read them to yourself just before bed even begin to imagine them being achieved already.

Next step and it’s a big step -the next day filter or narrow down the goals into 7 primary ones. Now here is the great MindStore approach we don’t concern ourselves with HOW we are going to achieve them, we don’t even think about a strategy, we do however take the time to identify and even write out WHY we really, really desire them.

Once you have identified the 7 key goals write them out once again with a full explanation to yourself as to why you really want them to come into your life. Do all of this over the coming days.

I will email you the second phase of this process – which works and will work for you too!

If you want to send this to friends and family then feel free – all I ask is you let them know its source.

All the very best and a Happy, Prosperous and Healthy 2014 to you and all you care for.

Keep Smiling

Jack
