This month we have an introduction to the House on the Right Bank, a classic MindStore tool and foundation of so many other techniques.

To all the Movember participants, keep trimming!

Thank you for making the time to read this, and I encourage you to look into our mental tools for improving your performance personally and for the people in your organisation.

Have a Magnificent Movember!

House on the Right Bank

This Phrase ” House on the right bank” or (HORB) is a very familiar phrase to those who have attended MindStore events over the last 25 years.

This is the place, in your imagination where you go to when ever you want and no one will know. Here you can visit this landscape and create your own house using your imagination with no limitations on size or finance.

This is a place you will have a desire to go to:

to set yourself up for your day

to prepare mentally ahead of all meetings at work

to destress and relax

to see your amazing goals achieved

All of this is done in your head using your imagination, it does not matter whether your learning style is Visual, Audio or Kinesthetic, you learn to do this using our interactive tools and techniques.

If you think this is out there and different, then you are right. Einstein said two things, one is that “Imagination is more important than knowledge” and this is what  we are using in these tools.

Secondly he said that “we can not solve our problems with the same level of thinking that created them”.

So what we do is deliberately designed to be different, out of the ordinary, because if the ordinary things we have done in the past still worked we would all be doing much better.

At MindStore we are passionate about helping everyone to rekindle that way of thinking to improve performance from Ordinary to Extraordinary,so think about contacting us to be involved in your next Learning and Development event.

* I have deliberately omitted an image of a house on a right bank of a river because everyones house is uniquely created by them, some do not see it but can feel its surfaces, all are unique and inspiring to the indivdual.

Keep Calm and Sieze the Day

October marks the start of the last quarter of the calendar year. The last 3 months to achieve the Professional and Personal Goals you have written down for this year.

How about a few inspiring short video clips to reignite your passion for the goals you set earlier in the year?

Everyone is busy at work, but are we productive? I challenge you to take 5 minutes to watch these 3 clips. Call it Professional or Personal Development! It might just spark some thinking to empower you to achieve more this quarter.

Wishing you an Outstanding October!

Inspiring Resources

istockphoto

Most of us know this Latin phrase, and its meaning.

How many of us though, actually apply it?

SIEZE THE DAY

We know we should sieze the day, watch less TV, eat better, exercise more, make time each day to stop and think, spend more quality time with family and loved ones.

Additionally we know we should have our personal and professional goals written down. Review them daily and take time to visualise them being achieved. Often the busyness of life catches up with us and slows us down. This is where we need to develop through Mindstores tools the Desire, Belief and Expectation that our goals can and will be achieved.

TIME FLY’S

This is the begining of the last quarter of the year! just 80 days or a little under 2000 hours left.

Those of us with written goals have just 3 months to make it happen. Those without written goals have only 3 months to think about them and then make them happen!

TIME AND TIDE WAIT FOR NO MAN

Living on a tidal waterway I see it every day, the unstoppable rising and ebbing flow of the tide. This is the time to use MindStores tools to re-inspire, re-motiviate and re-focus, ourselves to deal with the ebb and flow of our inspiration, motivation and energy this quarter.

As shared before the most powerful way to do this is to take time out every morning to “progamme your day”

The ability to take time to close your eyes and mentally reherse your day. The ability to pre-prepare for meetings and important calls.

Being able to maximise your energy, improve your performance, protect yourself from negativity and also use tools to manage stress are key parts of Mindstore’s success with 500,000 people over the last 25 years.

Now is the time to find your MindStore planner,to use it daily, to remind yourself of the MindStore tools and to use them daily too.

If you want to see change in your Professional and Personal life, then be the change you want to see and Sieze the day.

Mental Rehearsal- The Secret of Success

Mental Rehearsal the Secret of Success

istockphoto

Mental rehearsal is the secret to success in your personal life, and career.

With the fantastic Commonwealth Games from Glasgow there have been numerous images of the competitors closing there eyes just before their event.

This is not out of fear like we might, or to pray, it is a specific tool they use to visualise them winning the event.

They are mentally rehearsing what they have practised hundreds of times to ensure a peak performance now, when it counts.

The strength of mind to do this amongst the excitement, anticipation and stress of the event is what makes them Extraordinary achievers.

Outside of the Commonwealth Games, look at Formula One drivers like Lewis Hamilton and the late Ayrton Senna.

In football David Beckham is often seen closing his eyes just before one of his amazing free kicks.

In golf Tiger Woods used to regularily close his eyes during his practise swing.

Do you see the pattern?

Extraordinary people use tools like mental rehearsal to deliver Extraordinary results.

Wouldn’t you like to have these tools too?

Imagine how you could improve your personal and professional performance at those critical times if you had the tools to mentally rehearse your activity before hand.

Well you can by inviting MindStore into your workplace to deliver a custom designed workshop for you, your leadership team and people at all levels.

As I keep saying, Organisations are groups of people, when you inspire and empower the people you transform the organisation.

We too can learn to use Mental Rehearsal to improve our performance. One of our best MindStore tools is within what we call our House on the Right Bank. This for those who have not attended one of our workshops is a place we create in our minds, on the Right side of our brain , the creative intuitive imaginative side. Where we can mentally rehearse the event  that is so important to us in our life.  Contact us to find out more.

If you think this is out there and different, then you are right. Einstein said two things, one is that “Imagination is more important than knowledge” and this is what  we are using in these tools.

and secondly he said that “we can not solve our problems with the same level of thinknig that created them”.

So what we do is deliberately designed to be different, out of the ordinary, because if the ordinary things we have done in the past still worked we would all be doing much better.

It takes mental rehersal to improve performance from Ordinary to Extraordinary.

This tool delivers fantastic results.

At MindStore we are passionate about helping everyone to rekindle that way of thinking so think about inviting us to be involved in your next learning and development event.

Back to the Future, like Mohammad Ali

back to the future with MindStore

Can you remember when this came out in 1985?

If so can you believe that the future they visited is next year (2015!)

This re-minded me of the great Mohammad Ali who we discuss later.

Create your Future History

istockphoto

Continuing with our tools to set and achieve our goals, we look at our FUTURE HISTORY or Going Back to your future.

The ability to close your eyes and see in your minds eye, your right side, the creative imaginative side of your brain, the goal you have being achieved.

What will it feel like, look like?

What sights sounds smells with there be?

Who will be there?

This is one of Mohammad Ali’s secrets to his extraordinary success.

The mental ability to repeatedly see in his minds eye a goal being achieved, before it happens.

This give us the confidence to see goals as a “Future History” as Ali said.

It is an event in the future, its not happened yet, but he had visualised it and replayed it so many times in his mind that for him it was already history, already achieved.

This is a powerful mental technique for goal settting and achieving.

How did he do it?

Ali tells us that when he signed a contract for a fight, he would immediately find somewhere quiet, close his eyes and bring up into his imagination the moment when his goal is achieved. In his case when knocked out George Foreman in the 8th round at the famous Rumble in the Jungle in 1974

And that vision, that ability to see a Future History inspired him, whenever anyone asked him a question doubting his ability to win, or any negative thoughts entered his mind.

He could see Foreman on the canvas floor, feel the vibration of the deck, hear the roar of the crowd, smell the linament on his skin, see the flashbulbs of cameras, feel the pain his body had taken, taste the sweat and blood in his mouth guard.

All his senses were stimulated in his imagination , it was such a clear vision of a future event.

This desire to win, belief and expectation that he would achieve his goal enabled him to achieve what many called “the greatest sporting event of the 20th century”

So this month of May what will you see and tell people you will do be or have before you actually achieve them?

There is a challenge for you? Are you up for it? Have you had enough of the same old? What really inspires you? Will you make time to think differently about your goals and learn how to see with the clarity of Mohammed Ali and develop your own Future History?

Its your’s no one elses so take control.

If you would like some more details our MindStore Goal setting planner it is available with our compliments. Simply email us your postal address to: enquires@mindstoreaustralia.com and we would be delighted to send one out to you.

Then you will know….. IT JUST WORKS!

Keep Calm & Think BIG

keep calm and think big

Many people I meet had BIG plans for 2014, however they feel that the year is slipping and its too late to start.

“Its Never to late!” is my response, “Start today, let me help you”

Take some time out, use MindStore’s tools to manage your stress, and begin to access your right brain and Think Big.

Like Donald Trump’s quote at the end of this newsletter, why think small. Who are we to think small we were all given an amazing capacity to do be and have more in our business and personal lives if we would just Think Big.

As Marianne Williamson wrote:
“Your playing small does not serve the world”

Think Big and set Big Goals

This month we focus on Thinking Big.

If you would like to know more I recommend the above book at our sessions as a fantastic and informative read.
This is the link to Amazon for more information:

A simple concept that is difficult to begin with. Mainly because it requires a change of attitude and mindset.
Many of us adults, if we are honest, are used to thinking small, safe, keeping within our comfort zones. Kids however automatically Think Big. My youngest son IS going to be an airline pilot for Jetstar.

He can see the benefits of this, a big WHY for him. His positive attitude causes him not to think about the challenges he faces to achieve this big goal. His WHY is so he can fly Mum and Dad around Australia! Do you think I will encourage this goal or dismiss it?
We can learn so much from this type of thinking. How many of us think about goals for our professional and personal lives only to have our experience of life make us reduce the size of our goals.

The fear of failure kicks in, the Self Doubt. Why do we let this happen?

Remember Winston Churchill said “Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference”

On the 10th of this month, pause for a second with your mobile phone to think of the Scotsman who invented “talking with electricity” Alexander Graham Bell.
Back in the 1870’s he thought Big and had a Big Goal to improve on the telegraph as a method of communication and overcame many challenges to invent the telephone.

So take a moment to think of what a Big Goal that must have been for him and the ability he had to Think Big, develop a positive Can Do Attitude and mindset to keep going to achieve his goal.

If you would like some more details our MindStore Goal setting planner is available with our compliments. Simply email us your postal address to: enquires@mindstoreaustralia.com and we would be delighted to send one out to you.

Then you will know….. IT JUST WORKS!

Two final thoughts this month, first the caption above.
Second is: What were the first words spoken over the telephone by Alexander Graham Bell?
” Mr.Watson.. come here… I want to see you”
Is this maybe what inspired John Logie Baird set his goal to invent Television? Who knows?

The starting point of all achievement is Desire…

Welcome to August’s Awesome Newsletter

Last month we received several emails from readers saying “they would love to take time out to relax but they were too stressed.”

A common complaint from groups we work with.

Here is a short story on Stress Management for all those people to enjoy: http://www.mindstoreaustralia.com/main/stress-less-enjoy-the-scenery-on-a-detour.html

Book of the month is “Anyone can do it” by Duncan Bannatyne of Dragons Den. A great reminder that we can. If we have Determination, Desire, and Belief in ourselves.

Have an Awesome August!

All the Best

Damian and the team at MindStore Australia.

“Sometimes becoming rich isn’t about opportunity, its about Desire.”

We received many positive comments for the Attention sign to print in your office last month.

Following on from that and intertwined with our book of the month I wanted to share a few thoughts on Desire.

Duncan Bannatyne said “it isnt about opportunity, its about Desire” and Napoleon Hill said that “Desire is the starting point of all achievement”

So how do we develop Desire?

Dream-Belief-Open Mindedness

As Napoleon Hill said “there is a difference between wishing for a thing and being ready to recieve it. No one is ready for a thing until he believes he can acquire it. The state of mind must be belief, not mere hope or wish. Open mindedness is essential for belief. Closed minds do not inspire faith, courage or belief.

There are no limitations to the mind except those we acknowledge.

Challenge yourself to sit in your bedroom (or another private quiet area) and close your eyes, focus on your breathing, concentrate on breathing and resist the tendency for your mind to  “wander”.Manage your thinking. Begin to imagine what your goals or future achievements will look and feel like. Then practise developing the burning desire and belief in yourself that you will succeed, you will show determination and keep going forward to create the future you desire.

We know that extraordinary people like Andrew Carnegie and Thomas Edison did a certain amount of “Dreaming” or “Desiring” before they were successfull and were Determind to achieve what they believed in.

“Everyone needs some Time Out”

Many of you commented on last months newsletter and the challenge of being too busy to block time for yourself in your Calendars.

This months we continue by encouraging everyone to take some time out. Time to refocus on the positives and look forward with renewed energy for the next half of the year.

All the Best

Damian and the team at MindStore Australia.

Use MindStore's toolkit to be creative like Picasso

Use MindStore’s toolkit to be creative like Picasso

Several people who contacted us last month were challenged by May’s newsletter, regarding blocking time to think in their Calender.

I understand for many this is challenging, its different and it requires a change of thinking.

And that’s exactly WHY we all need to do it.

We all know the quote “Change your thinking, Change your life”.

If we don’t or won’t change, how can we expect things to be different.

With the cooler weather in many parts of Australia in the evening instead of reaching for the remote control, Why not have a TIME OUT…Take time out with MindStore Australia

not a chocolate bar, but some time out for you.

Everyone needs time to recharge, to review, to reassess and to reflect.

With the focus in business on the upcoming end of financial year, its an ideal time to take this time out for yourself.

Challenge yourself to sit in your bedroom and close your eyes, focus on your breathing, concentrate on breathing and resist the tendency for your mind to  “wander” manage your thinking. Your Mind is a huge Store for Creative Innovative thinking, practise accessing it for improved quality time to recharge, to review your day to see that you did the best you could and to reassess your next day and reflect on how you could think, listen and act with greater clarity to achieve more.

Remember  its true ” Everyone needs some time out”

Book Review:

Drive- The surprising truth about what motivates us by Daniel Pink

This is an ideal book to dip in and out of after your TIME OUT time.

Enlightening and full of ideas about changing our thinking and how we are motivated to achieve more.

Think … before saying Yes to a meeting request

Many of you will remember that last month was about great quotes to inspire Innovation.

This months thought is about being Mindful in May. In a short example consider making time to think about your appointments Calendar and maybe blocking out some time to THINK. Sounds radical I hear you say!

Welcome also to everyone from the Miners Health and Wellbeing Conference who have joined our Newsletter this month.

Finally I trust you are all going to motivate yourselves to make time to have a Magnificent May!

thinking monkey THINK….

THINK….

THINK

Ever heard yourself or collegues saying ” I don’t have time to think” or “I can’t hear myself think”

As you can imagine, your not alone. Often when working with clients a common issue people raise is their work Calendar. Meeting after meeting seems inevitable. As this is May how about thinking about being more Mindful of your Calendar.

Dare yourself to say NO to a meeting request, and use that time for reflection on current challenges with space to THINK.

Also challenge yourself to think about each appointment before accepting it.

Is it carved in stone, who set it for you?

How many do we attend even when others in our team attend?

Do we attend because in our organisations culture, everyone needs to know everything?

Do we believe that if someone thinks we are needed in a meeting, we cannot turn it down, we are leaders so we must be required?

busy outlook calander

Why not open your calendar, take a deep breath and pause for a moment, do you feel your chest, neck or stomach tighten just by looking at the volume of appointments. What is that telling us, if we listen? Is it good for us?

Is this the best use of our time? Are we effective leaders if we allow ourselves to be in 8 meetings a day 5 days a week. Where do we have space to lead, to think differently, to innovate.

How different would your week be if you questioned the volume of meetings, delegated more, intentionally left spaces in your week for connecting with colleagues and reports face to face. What do you feel the impact would be if you made space in your day to ask if there was better ways to do things, more productively, more socially responsible, more profitably?

As Wayne Dyer said “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”

Book of the Month:

Use Your Head by Tony Buzan

Several people asked about MindMaps after last months Newsletter. So here is an easy to read book by the inventor of Mindmaps. Full of great examples and easy ways to develop this great tool yourself.

Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass….

Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass….

Last month was about Embracing 2013 along with its changes and challenges. Little did we expect the challenges that ex tropical cyclone Oswald unleashed last week!

Our thoughts are with all of those individuals and organisations affected by the storms and hope that they can muster the strong positive mental attitute we all have in us to go forward tackling the challenges faced.

Thanks for making time out to read this. We always endeavour to make it motivational and give you some food for thought.

Have a fabulous February from Damian and the team at MindStore Australia

Ex tropical cyclone Oswald was pounding our roof, lashing our windows and snapping trees all around us. Amongst this I was reminded of the above quote from Vivan Greene.

We can choose our attitude we can have negative thoughts like: what a waste of the Australia Day holiday weekend, “being stuck in the house or we can choose to have a more positive grateful attitude ” we needed this rain” or ” with the power off I have to think of imaginative ways to entertain the kids without TV or Xbox”

Everything in life requires us to have the correct attitude.

Take 2m 45 seconds to watch this youtube clip of the appropriately named poem “Weather Report” by BJ Gallagher.
Enjoy.

Embrace 2013

Guid New Year tae ana an aw, and mony may ye see!

In case you needed help with the translation this traditional Scottish greeting says ” A good New Year to one and all, and many may you see!”

As you will remember Decembers newsletter was about Walt Disney embracing changes in the movie industry seeing the change as an opportunity while others saw it as a challenge.

This month in our later than normal edition we pick up on the Sydney New Years Eve Fireworks theme of “EMBRACE”

Thanks for making the time to read this, I appreciate it’s one of many in your inbox. We always aim to make your time reading it inspiring, motivational, worthwhile and give you something to think about and hopefully take some action too!

Have a wonderful January, embrace a can do attitude and unfold a fantastic 2013 for yourself.

All the best from Damian and the MindStore Australia Team

Embrace 2013 and the Changes and Opportunities

As you will all remember the Sydney New Years Eve Fireworks theme was EMBRACE.

Embrace:
•the moment
•the possibilities
•new ideas
•change and opportunities
•the potential that tommorrow holds
•love

I think we should add another one that enables you to achieve the others embrace a “can do” attitude. Because by developing that mindset, you open your mind up to focusing on the opportunities that are there for you.

Why not make some time to think, to envisage what Goals you would want to embrace for 2013 and beyond. This is a fantastic time to take time out, and commit to writing some inspiring goals for yourself both professionally and personally to work towards this year. Embrace the amazing potential you have to be, do and have more in 2013.

Finally on the topic of goals, remember extraordinary people write their goals down, less than 4% of the population. Be one of them in 2013. If you think your goals are challenging think of President Obama as the inauguration happens on the 21st of this month, he has set a goal for a 2nd term and I bet you he mentally visualised daily being sworn in, even when all the negativity around him told him he could not win. That’s the power of a winning can do attitude.

If you fancy a quick two minute break , instead of grabbing another coffee, pour yourself a glass of cool, refreshing water and click this link below to watch the fireworks and be inspired to think about what embracing a positive “can do” attitude would do for you and your colleagues at work as well as your family and friends.
