Day Four Final Day

Welcome to the final day of this MindStore Goals Setting and Achieving Workshop. I trust you have successfully carried out the previous stages.

I like to call this Extraordinary Goal Setting because it’s certainly not your Ordinary Goal Setting process.

Ordinary Goal setting that you may have been shown previously at work or read books on  or on internet blogs tell you to firstly set goals which are REALISTIC AND ACHIEVABLE.

Let me tell you a wee secret……………

…………. in my experience not a single person who has inspired me throughout history started out with realistic and achievable goals.

None of them get out of bed in the morning with a PASSION for a  realistic and achievable goals.

Extraordinary people who have achieved amazing things in all walks of life had huge goals that really inspired them and at the outset they had absolutely no idea of how to get there.

The clue here is they didn’t know HOW but they absolutely knew WHY.

Everytime they thought about this extraordinary goal it pressed all their buttons and inspired them to keep going towards the goal. Overtime through constant repeating and through time the people places and opportunities they need to achieve their goals came to them at right time.

You will have heard successful people say “I was in the right place at the right time” well now having done 3 days of this you are absolutely  in right place at right time.

Next Step: Take the 30 goals you wrote down yesterday and begin to reduce them down to 7.

When I was first introduced to this 20 years ago 30 goals seemed like and impossible amount to focus on. Fortunately there is a process to reduce that down to a manageable amount. You can imagine with 30 goals to visualise each one a few time a day would take a long time plus it felt a bit greed y to ask for so many. So we decided to pick a smaller number, that was 7, 7 days of week, 7 colours of rainbow, 7 notes on musical scale etc 7 is an important number.

Yesterday those goals that seemed impossible with your left brain saying “that’s not possible” are exactly the type of extraordinary goals that thousands of MindStore attendees over the last 20 years have been achieving because this process just works.

Also you will find that in achieving the 7 you actually achieved all of them. I have looked at goals I set 15 or 20 years ago and look back astounded that they came true and I am living, doing and have the things I wrote out. I also remember they seemed impossible at the time and now I look back and wish I had set bigger goals, that those now seem quite tame and small. It’s fantastic.

So get your list of 30 or more out and begin to reduce them to 7, some are must haves others are combinations of a few goals. So do this and remember your wheel of life and sense of balance.

Next step: Work on those Goals

Now we do the work on them, the process for ordinary goal setting the Realistic & Achievable and SMART process, tell you to get the right plan and the right objectives.

We don’t do that. The work we do in the beginning is to get ourselves relaxed, close our eyes and in our minds eye visualise each of the goals.

Remember about being in the right place at the right time. Well be assured that on day 4 of this process you are absolutely in right place at the right time.

What we do is we relax, close our eyes and in our imaginative right side of our brain, go into our future and pull up the goal in our minds eye. We run through a video of the goal being achieved and then at the exact moment it’s achieved we take a freeze frame snap photo and know exactly what it looks like.Get a sense of how it feels, smells, the sounds relating to the goal also if relevant.

This is the working part of it, or the inner work as we say at MindStore. The part that takes discipline.

Once you have visualised your goal then in your note book write out on one or two pages for each goal. Put the date you set the goal down and also the date you will achieve it by.

Ignore the left logical brain or negative self talk and doubt. Write the goal out clearly, and then create an affirmation for that goal. This is just a short sentence with 3P’s. It needs to be Personal, Positive and in Present tense.

So beginning starts with “I have, I am”  and can end with “now” if you like.

In the middle is the positive thing you want to do be or have.

Then I urge you to get photo downloaded of goal and glue it to your note book.

Finally put in a detailed description of the goal and what it will be like when its achieved.  The reason for the detail is how many people have set goals of say “I want to lose weight” or “I want more money” with the last one you could find 10cents on the footpath, then your goal is actually achieved because of the lack of detail! Put in exactly how much you want put a $ figure in bold writing in this example.

Then before you go to bed each night read the goal, read the affirmation, look at the image, read the description. Then close your eyes and go to sleep. If you have previously attended a MindStore event you will know about specific tools and techniques for this and for waking in the morning “programming” your day. If you are new to this then it is fine. Just wake up look through your goals again and then think about your day and the way you want it to go.  You can always set a goal for us to come to your workplace to run a MindStore event for you and your colleagues to learn even more!

Then people places opps, begin to line up, it takes time, it is not instant, the resources, the ideas need to line up in time, but you will get there if every night you remind yourself and do the work.

Also put photos where you would least expect to see them, inside the wardrobe, in the car, they subliminally program you and remind you constantly of your goals.

The critical thing is to constantly remind yourself and visualise your goals. Doing this every night every morning, things will begin to happen. I promise you. Get in touch with me if you feel it’s not working for you so I can help.

In time you will begin to get confidence and more creative ideas come along. Sometimes you will wake up with fantastic ideas to help you on your path to your goals. Write them in your notebook, like a Night Book.

I have taken the 4 days out myself to do this process and set myself up for 2015.

I trust you will trust yourself to do this.  I know that if you do this work as explained above you will attract the right ideas to take the action and you will achieve your goals, it just works.

Goal Setting and Achieving workshop part three from MindStore

Stick to your goals like a postage stamp!



Welcome to Day three of the process.

I trust you enjoyed working through parts 1 and 2.

Really enjoy today it’s a time for you to play with your imagination. The part of brain that most adults don’t get a chance to play with often enough.

We live in a left brain dominant world, focused on logical, reasoning, analytical thinking.When it comes to this more imaginative, creative, intuitive right brained thinking like this process most people think “Oh! wait a minute”  You see the left brain limits our imagination and goal setting capability.

This left brain thinking is backed up by those who say you should set goals based on your current reality and your past experiences or  that you need to have a plan first and know how you get there. Hopefully you can begin to see that this type of left brain thinking will limit the size of the goals you set and achieve.

Yet the extraordinary men and women, in beginning couldn’t possibly set a plan because their goals were so huge and impossible. Take Mandela , 27 yrs in a cell and all the time he had a goal, a vision of being President and freeing his nation from the way it was set up.  That type of thinking, of what you truly truly want is one aspect of Extraordinary Goal Setting.

If you are new to Mindstore and our tools and techniques then you can trust us. MindStore has been helping people set and achieve extraordinary goals for 25 years over 500,000 people around the world  have participated in our sessions mainly via in house programs with their company or to ales extent at public open programs. Trust that if this didn’t work we would have been found out a long time ago.

Open your mind to this if it’s new to you, trust yourself. This works.

You will remember that I asked you at the beginning of the workshop to trust the process. Again today I ask the same. This is the time to use your imagination and to write down WHAT you really really want and desire to do be or have. Do not worry about HOW you are going to get there.

If your Goals are compelling and inspiring enough you will have the desire to constantly use your imagination to go back again and again to look at them in your mind, to visualise your goals being achieved. That process and commitment of visualisation of the goals, is what will cause you to absolutely achieve them.

What every you need to do you will do, as time goes by, yes you begin to make a plan, yes you get more clarity, yes you will understand the next step, but this is NOT IMPORTANT in the beginning. I need you to believe this critical part.

It’s not up to you in the beginning  to figure out how to get there, this will come through your imagination. You will begin to attract opportunities, circumstances and people to you helping you towards your goals because you have put energy into thinking what you want to do be or have.

The amazingly funny Jim Carrey revealed on a chat show recently, that when he was a struggling actor in his imagination he would visualise a future where he dared to imagine that big billboards had his name and image on it. He even wrote himself a cheque for a huge amount of money and put it away. A year later he was all over the billboards with movies he starred in! and the cheque he received was for far more than he dared to write down previously. This stuff works!

Lets get started……….

This process takes 11 minutes.  This is always a hugely powerful part of our Personal Development training days for participants. You are going to think of and write down 30 (or more) Goals that you want to do, be or have.

Go for walk or cycle to help you get relaxed, self focused and ready. Find somewhere private to sit, get your phone out and set the stop watch for 11 minutes.

Hit start and begin writing, in your note pad or piece of paper. All the usual stuff will come quickly:

  • the salary increase you want
  • the car you want to drive
  • the dream place to live
  • the dream holiday you want to go on
  • the ideal house you want to live in

Trust me I have done all this and it absolutely works.

Often what happens is say after 6 minutes have passed you feel you have run out of ideas. Then go back to wheel look and see areas that need attention more goals will come from this, write them down.

Maybe now there are just 5 minutes to go, imagine that I was to turn up and you show me your list. I am not interested in HOW you are going to get there or the logic of them. So I say I will give you in cash now $10million if you have 30 goals written down by the time your 11 minutes are up.

I know and you know what you would do to get the money. You would make them up to make sure you got the money. Read this again. You would make them up! Using your imagination. You would get into a flow of ideas and start writing down the goals you made up.

Don’t listen to the voice in your head saying “how are you going to get that?” “that’s impossible” “how is that realistic?” “don’t be ridiculous”

What we have found is that over the years people who do this and use the techniques achieve their goals regardless of how out there and impossible your left brain and inner voice or unsupportive friends might tell you is impossible.

Whatever comes to your consciousness write it down. People often comment to me “what I wrote out was utterly impossible back then”

Like Jim Carrey some seemed totally and utterly impossible but what happens by committing to this process, writing out 30 goals is that they got all their goals.

Have fun doing this if you get 30 Goals after 8 minutes, keep going, push on. Maybe you will get 40 or 50 goals.

Then leave them in your subconsciousness overnight. Think about them, dream about them, maybe look on internet to see what the goals look like that inspire you.

If you are new to this and I hope some of you are and not only MindStore members. I believe it’s important to share this, why keep it to ourselves? its not a secret?

The truth is all of us deserve to live the life of our dreams.

To enable us to have the life we truly desire.

Goal Setting workshop part one

As 2014 comes rapidly to an end its critical to turn out attention and mindset to goals for 2015.  This is a time of beginings and endings. New Year is a time for setting and committing to Intentions and Resolutions. However for many sadly these resolutions are made in haste just before midnight on the 31st and forgotten less than a week later.

Think about the resolutions you made to get fit, lose a few kilos, 2nd of January you hit the gym every day with all your friends the first week, then next week it was a bit wet so you missed a few days, then you worked late so missed another, then you felt like going home rather than the gym and you missed a few more days. Those missed days become weeks and before you know it because of our fast pace of life its 31st December again and time to make the same resolution again! Sounds crazy but sadly its true for many many people.

If you have decided that 2015 is going to be different, for all the right reasons, if you have the desire to make it your best year every, but are not sure how to do it then this short workshop series is for you.

Remember that if you are not visualising and programming your days weeks and months around your own goals then you are working toward someone elses!

Make time amongst the post xmas busyness for these 3 days of personal development sessions. As Jim Rohn make time to “work harder on yourself than you do on your job” if you want success.


Step one: Wheel of Life:

Why not get yourself a plain page note book, and keep it for the year to note your journey as you go from setting your goals to seeing them achieved.

This is a time to reflect where you are in the 12 key areas of our life. There could be more spokes on the wheel but I believe these 12 are critical.

Go somewhere that is good for you, somewhere where you can think, somewhere you feel relaxed.

Draw a big circle/ wheel on it draw 12 spokes, from 12am to 6pm, from 9pm to 3pm etc, on each spoke make a scale radiating from the centre 1 to 10 at circumference

10 would be absolutely perfect, and 1 would be the exact opposite.

No one is a 1, rate yourself. Put a mark on the scale for each segment for where you feel you are right now.

Let’s start at 12 o’clock position if you imagine the wheel as a clock.

Do this honestly with yourself.


Marriage/ partnership

This is first because people around the world tend to get into primary relationships. Some will be in a marriage or partnership, and loving it, other will be saying how much longer can this continue? Others will be wanting to get into relationships, and some will just be out of one saying, they will never again get into a relationship.

So we are all in different places in our own lives with this first part of our life.

So are you a 10 everything fantastic here like or could it be better, rate yourself here honestly?



Where are you with this is your family life loving, caring, supportive nurturing? Also think if you are driving a business forward have you missed any important family events because of work commitments, is there balance here?



Its more about how do you get on with other humans beings, no one is an island, are you at ease with people,  a shoulder to cry on, are you the life and soul of the party a 10?


Personal Development/ Education

Do you buy development books, attend relevant courses and workshops, 1s send people on courses. Will you keep reading appropriate books and develop? Follow MindStore’s updates on twitter and LinkedIn?



Where are you here? Is everything fantastic in your career are you a 10, or could things be better, is it time to change direction, maybe this exercise will help you to find inspiration. 7 out of 10 people would rather do something else!



How do you deal with –ve situations. If your house burnt down today, would you be a 10, fantastic! I can now move to a new place, or would you be a wreck? Do you get up the morning thinking what will go well today? Are you +ve and vibrant person. Do you think about the negatives, what might go wrong?



We are beginning to take ownership of our own health now be honest with yourself, where are you here? Are you making time to look after your health. What are you doing about it?



How do you perceive your finances. Do you worry about money, or are you happy with the flow of money in and out of your life? Its more about how you feel about money than whether you are a millionaire.


Is it a secure loving place; do you feel safe and good there? Do people get a good feeling when they visit it?



Laptops, mobiles, do you keep them updated and current, is your fridge light on and serviced, where are you with servicing and upgrading in your life?


Leisure & Recreation

It is very important in our lives, if we don’t take time for leisure and recreation how can we keep going at the pace we need in the rest of our lives? Do you work hard and play hard? Do you stay back at work because your boss does? Would you rather be at home with family?



Have you noticed how book stores are groaning with spiritual book, that weren’t there 20 years ago? Someone’s buying them because bookstores only keep books on shelves that sell. Research shows amazing trends in spiritual growth. People are searching for something taking more personal ownership of their spirituality?

Are you in tune with your true inner self. Are you living the best life you can ? Where are you on this scale? Interestingly people tend to get interested in this at aged 36-42 research says because at this age we have experienced enough of life and of people around us dying that we begin to question ,what’s this all about?



Now what to do is join all the marks up.

Good news if it’s all over the place your normal!

Idea of this exercise is to show you where you are out of balance in your life.

And it starts us thinking about possible goals to make 2015 the best year ever.


If you’ve done this honestly then you probably know already what they might need to be.


Step Two: Gratification List

On another page write out 10 things you are really grateful for. Take time to think about this step.

Write them in CAPITAL LETTERS. Really mean what you write down.

This provides a foundation for inspiring goals for year ahead. Look at your wheel for ideas, relationships, family, career, health, family, what you have achieved, write out 10, and leave them to soak into your subconscious overnight, and then tomorrow we begin the 2nd phase of the process.


A quick Tip : you will need some bin bags!


By the time you and I get to end of this process we will be heading into 2015 truly inspired with powerful goals.

Stress less & enjoy the scenery on a detour.

Forgive me if you have read this short Stress Management story before, but I felt it would be a timely reminder for a group of people that I met recently. Enjoy!

A  lecturer, when explaining stress management to an audience, raised a glass of  water and asked, “How heavy is this glass of water?” Answers called out ranged  from 20g to 500g.

The lecturer replied, “The absolute weight doesn’t  matter. It depends on how long you try to hold it. If I hold it for a minute,  that’s not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I’ll have an ache in my right  arm. If I hold it for a day, you’ll have to call an ambulance.”

“In each  case, it’s the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes,”  he continued, “and that’s the way it is with stress management. If we carry all  of our burdens all the time, sooner or later, as the burden becomes increasingly  heavy, we won’t be able to carry on.”

“As with the glass of water, you  have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again. When we’re  refreshed, we can carry on with the burden. So, whatever burdens you’re carrying  now, let them down for a moment if you can. Relax.  Life is short. Don’t pick them up again until after  you’ve rested a while. They will then seem so much lighter.”

Here are  some great ways of dealing with the burdens of life:

·          Accept that some days  you’re the pigeon, and some days you’re the statue.

·          Always keep your  words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them.

·          If you can’t be kind,  at least have the decency to be vague.

·         You may be only one  person in the world, but you may also be the world to one person.

·          A truly happy person  is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

“If you think you can do a thing or think you can’t do a thing, your absolutely right”

For me this quote from Henry Ford the American founder of the Ford motor company sums up the power we all have within us to “change your thinking and change your life”.
How many of us spend our time thinking we can’t do something and list reasons why. Or think , I would love to but… or I would if.. or I will TRY…..

If we put as much energy and time into thinking of ways we can do something, instead of the negative thinking we can not, we would all be so much further ahead in our business and personal lives.
I believe passionately that we need to change our thinking to think we can, and we will be right. We will do it. Those of you who have attended our Business events or been on your organisations in-house events with MindStore will know we have a complete mental tool kit which we share with you to enable to change your thinking and change your life.

The big challenge for all of us, myself included, is to keep using these tools every day in amongst our busy business and personal lives.

Keep using them, even when it feels like your goals are still away in the distance. Remember Thomas Edison who kept going even after thousands of failed attempts at making an electric light, or Graham Alexander Bell in a previous newsletter who kept thinking innivativley to create “talking with electricity” or the telephone as we know it.

We’ve all been there.  It can be a challenging time for students, and for those who live with them.  MindStore can help eliminate the anxiety and stress related with exams, and in turn produce fantastic results!

Exams can cause tremendous anxiety, negativity and self-doubt. However if you use the techniques described here, you need never feel challenged by the thought of exams again. You may even start to look forward to them!

These techniques are as relevant to young children’s first exams, to mature students, or professional exams for career development.


In the run up to and during the exam you need to be positively self talking to yourself.

Statements like “ I know I can do this” and “I can sit this exam to the best of my ability on the day”

All help to reinforce positive messages to yourself so you believe you can do well.

As the great Henry Ford said “If you think you can or think you can’t, you are absolutely right”

So think “I can” and you will.

Keep Away:

“Never go near the examination room until the last possible minute”

In fact don’t even enter the building where the exam is taking place until you absolutely have to. Sit in your car, your parent’s car, or park bench for as long as possible and keep out of the way.

There is a good reason for this. If you remember back to school days remember how you felt before exams: the high level of anxiety and your friends wailing, “I know I’m going to fail this, I’m lousy at exams” making you think “ Oh No, I’m lousy at them too” and you remember the brainy ones saying, “ I know I’m going to fail because I haven’t revised a thing” even though you knew they’d done nothing else for weeks?

If you recall how all that felt you will understand why you should keep your distance until the last minute. Otherwise, your brain will listen to all the negative energy and will process it, especially if you find yourself joining in with a statement like,” I haven’t revised either”  your brain won’t know whether you are telling the truth or not it will simply process your thought.

Choosing the best seat:

When you walk into the exam room, if possible sit next to the student s you know will pass, so you can benefit from their positive energy fields. Who knows, some of their answers may even float over in your direction!

Don’t choose to sit next to those who seem sure to fail as there negative energy will affect you as well as the distractions from them fidgeting and leaving the room early.

Once in your seat, take deep long breaths in and focus on the breathing, then exhale deeply, do this 3 times to get plenty oxygen in your blood stream and into your brain. Smile and think positively about how well you will do remember the self talk from earlier.

Read the exam paper:

When the exam starts, you are always told to turn over the exam paper and start reading the questions.

Do you remember how that felt? You would start reading and your brain, which had probably listened to  weeks of negative self-talk such as “I know I can’t do it” or “I’m useless at this subject” would start to obey the instructions you have been giving it. After all, your subconscious can do many things, but the one thing it can’t take is a joke. So even if you jokingly said that you don’t stand a chance in a forthcoming exam, your subconscious brain will take note of what you said. It won’t hear the laughter that follows it will simply hear your words.

So let’s say you started reading the exam questions. The first question is easy, you can answer it put a tick against it on the exam paper. The same goes for question 2 and you start to feel better. Maybe this won’t be so bad after all, you read on. And Oh my goodness, you don’t know the answer to question 3 or 4. All the negative self –talk comes flooding back- “I knew I was going to fail, I don’t know how to do this” You carry on reading and can answer questions 5to 8. This means you have the potential to gain a 75% pass, but you will probably focus on the two you can’t answer rather than the six you can.

Think differently:

An alternative way to read the exam questions is this. Read first question and if you can answer it, to jot down your answer immediately in the form of a mindmap. It only takes a few minutes and it gives you a big psychological advantage. Read question 2, you can answer it jot answer down as a mindmap only on your exam paper.

Carry on down the paper if you come to a question you can’t answer use MindStore’s  F-word and say “ Fantastic!”  you then feel optimistic.

You think of the way the subconscious brain works and feel confident that, while you are answering the other questions, it will be sifting away through your memory looking for the answer. Maybe you draw a blank over the next question too, so you say “fantastic!” again. When you have finished reading the exam paper, you will have mind maps for each of the questions you can answer, and start turning these into written answers.

Only when you have finished all these answers do you turn again to the questions you count answer immediately. You read the first one again, and now the answer falls into your mind. Your subconscious has done the trick. Write the answer down as a mind map. Then read the next one, but you still can’t recall the answer. So go back to the mindmap of the one you now know and turn it into a full written answer. Only once this is done return to the final unanswered question.

In your imagination, imagine you are sitting in one of the seats in your class room or lecture hall. Pretend you teacher or lecturer is standing in front of you smiling at you. In your imagination, ask him or her, the question for which you need an answer. Listen carefully to the reply and don’t let your logic get in the way.

Clearly you are only using this imaginative and intuitive technique if you have no other way of knowing the answer. You will feel like you are making it up; you won’t know for certain that it’s correct and your logic will want to get involved. But trust your imagination and hand in your paper, with confidence.
