Extraordinary Goal Setting Final day with MindStore

MindStore performance improvement specialists

Day Four Final Day

Welcome to the final day of this MindStore Goals Setting and Achieving Workshop. I trust you have successfully carried out the previous stages.

I like to call this Extraordinary Goal Setting because it’s certainly not your Ordinary Goal Setting process.

Ordinary Goal setting that you may have been shown previously at work or read books on  or on internet blogs tell you to firstly set goals which are REALISTIC AND ACHIEVABLE.

Let me tell you a wee secret……………

…………. in my experience not a single person who has inspired me throughout history started out with realistic and achievable goals.

None of them get out of bed in the morning with a PASSION for a  realistic and achievable goals.

Extraordinary people who have achieved amazing things in all walks of life had huge goals that really inspired them and at the outset they had absolutely no idea of how to get there.

The clue here is they didn’t know HOW but they absolutely knew WHY.

Everytime they thought about this extraordinary goal it pressed all their buttons and inspired them to keep going towards the goal. Overtime through constant repeating and through time the people places and opportunities they need to achieve their goals came to them at right time.

You will have heard successful people say “I was in the right place at the right time” well now having done 3 days of this you are absolutely  in right place at right time.

Next Step: Take the 30 goals you wrote down yesterday and begin to reduce them down to 7.

When I was first introduced to this 20 years ago 30 goals seemed like and impossible amount to focus on. Fortunately there is a process to reduce that down to a manageable amount. You can imagine with 30 goals to visualise each one a few time a day would take a long time plus it felt a bit greed y to ask for so many. So we decided to pick a smaller number, that was 7, 7 days of week, 7 colours of rainbow, 7 notes on musical scale etc 7 is an important number.

Yesterday those goals that seemed impossible with your left brain saying “that’s not possible” are exactly the type of extraordinary goals that thousands of MindStore attendees over the last 20 years have been achieving because this process just works.

Also you will find that in achieving the 7 you actually achieved all of them. I have looked at goals I set 15 or 20 years ago and look back astounded that they came true and I am living, doing and have the things I wrote out. I also remember they seemed impossible at the time and now I look back and wish I had set bigger goals, that those now seem quite tame and small. It’s fantastic.

So get your list of 30 or more out and begin to reduce them to 7, some are must haves others are combinations of a few goals. So do this and remember your wheel of life and sense of balance.

Next step: Work on those Goals

Now we do the work on them, the process for ordinary goal setting the Realistic & Achievable and SMART process, tell you to get the right plan and the right objectives.

We don’t do that. The work we do in the beginning is to get ourselves relaxed, close our eyes and in our minds eye visualise each of the goals.

Remember about being in the right place at the right time. Well be assured that on day 4 of this process you are absolutely in right place at the right time.

What we do is we relax, close our eyes and in our imaginative right side of our brain, go into our future and pull up the goal in our minds eye. We run through a video of the goal being achieved and then at the exact moment it’s achieved we take a freeze frame snap photo and know exactly what it looks like.Get a sense of how it feels, smells, the sounds relating to the goal also if relevant.

This is the working part of it, or the inner work as we say at MindStore. The part that takes discipline.

Once you have visualised your goal then in your note book write out on one or two pages for each goal. Put the date you set the goal down and also the date you will achieve it by.

affirmations for goal setting with mindstore

Ignore the left logical brain or negative self talk and doubt. Write the goal out clearly, and then create an affirmation for that goal. This is just a short sentence with 3P’s. It needs to be Personal, Positive and in Present tense.

So beginning starts with “I have, I am”  and can end with “now” if you like.

In the middle is the positive thing you want to do be or have.

Then I urge you to get photo downloaded of goal and glue it to your note book.

Finally put in a detailed description of the goal and what it will be like when its achieved.  The reason for the detail is how many people have set goals of say “I want to lose weight” or “I want more money” with the last one you could find 10cents on the footpath, then your goal is actually achieved because of the lack of detail! Put in exactly how much you want put a $ figure in bold writing in this example.

Then before you go to bed each night read the goal, read the affirmation, look at the image, read the description. Then close your eyes and go to sleep. If you have previously attended a MindStore event you will know about specific tools and techniques for this and for waking in the morning “programming” your day. If you are new to this then it is fine. Just wake up look through your goals again and then think about your day and the way you want it to go.  You can always set a goal for us to come to your workplace to run a MindStore event for you and your colleagues to learn even more!

Then people places opps, begin to line up, it takes time, it is not instant, the resources, the ideas need to line up in time, but you will get there if every night you remind yourself and do the work.

Also put photos where you would least expect to see them, inside the wardrobe, in the car, they subliminally program you and remind you constantly of your goals.

The critical thing is to constantly remind yourself and visualise your goals. Doing this every night every morning, things will begin to happen. I promise you. Get in touch with me if you feel it’s not working for you so I can help.

In time you will begin to get confidence and more creative ideas come along. Sometimes you will wake up with fantastic ideas to help you on your path to your goals. Write them in your notebook, like a Night Book.

So there you have it the MindStore Goal Setting and Achieving Workshop

I have taken the 4 days out myself to do this process and set myself up for 2015.

I trust you will trust yourself to do this.  I know that if you do this work as explained above you will attract the right ideas to take the action and you will achieve your goals, it just works.

I am looking forward to 2015 I know it’s going to be my best one yet and using this process I know it will be for you too!

have a fantastic 2015 with MindStores Goals setting workshop

Congratulations for getting this far, finish the process and if feel free to contact me if you would like further help. Look forward to hearing from you in 2015!

Wishing you the very best with this in 2015, please keep up to date with us on our website, email updates as well as on twitter and LinkedIn.

“Thoughts are Things”

Thoughts are things

istockphoto

With all the coverage of the FIFA world cup I wanted to include in this update some comments from the world of football on thinking, the mind and imagination.

The first person who came to my mind was the famous Scotsman Bill Shankly who all Liverpool FC fans will remember. As well as his quote at the end of this update he also described his unbelieveable pride when playing for Scotland against “the auld enemy ” England. The players would become William Wallace or Robert the Bruce for 90 minutes after pulling on the Blue Scotland jersey. This was noted by football commentators who said ” Bill (Shankly) is a real Scotland player who fights until he drops”

Do you remember when you were younger, when Wimbledon was on imagining being Boris Becker or Martina Navratalova?

Did you play better at football when you got to be Maradona or Beckham?

This ability to use our imagination to improve our performance has been scientifically proven.

The ability to think and use our imagination to improve our results is a powerful tool. At Mindstore we train adults to re-mind themselves of these skills in our workshops and development days.

The truth is that we all had these skills as children, active powerful right brains, the creative, imaginative side but as we grow older most of us stop using it or trusting it.

At MindStore we are passionate about helping everyone to rekindle that way of thinking so the next time you are faced with a challenge at work you can take a few moments to use these tools and then come out, rip open your shirt and have a big red S underneath!

Thoughts are things!

A final thought……

“A lot of football success is in the mind. You must Believe that you are the best and then you make sure that you are.”

Movember 2012 Newsletter

Welcome

Last month as you may remember was about daring to dream and having a passion for your Goals. This month with all the US Electoral campaigning I thought I would pick up on some of the power of language both positive and negative and how it influences how we speak and are heard by our collegues friends and loved ones.

Plus see the book of the month a new comic strip version of Napolean Hills Classic, Think and Grow Rich.
Thanks for making the time to read this, I appreciate it’s one of many in your inbox. We always aim to make your time reading it inspiring, motivational, worthwhile and give you something to think about and hopefully take some action too!

Have an Magnificent Movember from Damian P.I. and the MindStore Australia Team

Powerful Positive Phrases

Recently with a group we were getting creative and visualising a bold new future for their company. It was amazing to hear the creativity in the room, people creating a Future History as we say at MindStore.
This exercise came back to me when watching the last Election debate with Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. During the questions Mitt repeatedly said ” If I am president I would….” where as Barack was saying ” As your president the first thing I will do is…”
Barack has also been asked for months now “Do you think you’ll get a second term?” and instantly with energy he responds “Yes, absolutely, I will still be president after November 2012”
This language I believe suggests that Mitt is not visualising being President, his goal and visualisation is not of him sitting at the desk in the oval office. His language lets you know his thoughts, he thinks it’s a maybe, an IF.
Don’t let your language talk you out of your goals and aspirations.
Barack on the other hand by his language is running a visualisation of his goal with the benefits he can bring to USA and the world as President for another term. He absolutely believes that he will be President again, as Henry Ford said “If you think you can do a thing or think you cannot, you’re absolutely right.”
Barack also said about change:
“Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time, We are the ones we’ve been waiting for, we are the change that we seek.”
If you would like to know more about the creation of useful mental habits, and improving performance through simple mental tools and techniques then give us a call at MindStore. We would be glad to arrange a time to have a conversation.
We are in the last quarter of 2012. What have you or your teams achieved in the field of personal development and growth so far? How are your Goals or resolutions for 2012 progressing? If like many people you could be doing more, then make time now to find out how MindStores toolkit will help your people access simple tools to improve the performance and leadership skills of their teams, departments and the organisation as a whole.
Remember by empowering people you transform organisations.
At MindStore we fundamanentally believe that “All performance is due to the quality of our thinking”.
Dare yourself to unleash more of the amazing capacity you and your teams have inside yourselves to improve your performance and to do be and have more in your business and personal lives.

Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill

Most of you will have read or heard about this classic book. Inspired by Andrew Carnegie the great Scottish born American business man and published during the great depression in USA in 1937.
The reason for highlighting this book is that people are constantly sharing how busy they are, and that its challenging to make time to read personal development books. So this caught my eye as it is an animated version of the book, in a comic strip type setup. It takes 1 hour to read versus 20 hours as a normal book and the images are great to help the Visual people remember the key points.

I believe it is worth a look at the website and for the cost of a few coffees it could be a great quick read when on the commute to work, or as an alternative to the negative filled newspapers at lunch. Have a look see what you think.
Click on link below for the animated book details and access to a free sample chapter:

And Finally…………Don’t Dream of Growing that!!

Inspired by last months newsletter Dare to Dream, I woke up at weekend having visualised me in Movemeber. My wife, Fiona’s comment was “Don’t dream of growing that!” Napolean Hill said start every day with a hearty laugh, programming your brain to be positive. This sure made Fiona laugh when she saw it.
Congratulations to all of those braver than me, taking part in the movember challenge.

Until next time, thanks again for taking time out in your day to read this newsletter or share it with colleagues, we trust you found something of interest.

October 2012

Welcome to our October newsletter.
As you will remember last month was about the inspiring athletes participating in the Paralympics.

This month read our short article about the dream of a 15 year old boy who, although he was told by his science teacher that his dream of becoming a scientist was ridiculous, went on to win this years Nobel Prize for Medicine.

Thanks for making the time to read this, I appreciate it’s one of many in your inbox. We always aim to make your time reading it inspiring, motivational, worthwhile and give you something to think about and hopefully take some action too!

Have an Awesome October from Damian and the MindStore Australia Team

If you have a passion for your Goals and Vision, dont let others talk you out of your Goals. Stay true to your dreams. as “the godfather of cloning” Sir Jon Gurdon did

At 15 he was the bottom of the bottom form in biology and was told his dream of becoming a scientist was ridiculous.

Sir John Gurdon last week proved his teacher wrong by winning the Nobel Prize for Medicine. Sir John was honoured for making the groundbreaking discovery that all body cells have the same genes. He had the desire, belief and expectation to achieve his dream whatever others said.

Next time you feel yourself saying you can’t, remember Sir John Gurdon’s amazing achievements to inspire you to do be and have more in your life.

If you would like to know more about the creation of useful mental habits, and improving performance through simple mental tools and techniques then give us a call at MindStore. We would be glad to arrange a time to have a conversation.

How to Perform like an Olympic Champion

The 2012 Olympic Games are almost upon us.  The Australian Olympic swimming team has just been picked.  The planning and building of the Olympic facilities has been ongoing for more than 7 years. Here in Australia as businesses head towards the new financial year in July we too need to be preparing, like these Olympic athletes if we want to deliver a gold medal performance in financial year 2012/13.

We know that individuals that become Olympic champions are able to, every day, access their alpha state and visualise the peak performance which results in them winning gold.  They are able to imagine the sights, sounds, smells at that moment when the medal is placed around their neck.  This ability gives them the unshakeable belief in their performance, whether as an individual or part of a team.

The men and women who will be there, in London, competing have dreamed their whole lives of competing at an Olympic games, some will already have competed before but for some it will be their first Olympics.  All the hard work and mental preparation will soon be realised.

If you would like to deliver an Olympic medal winning performance in your business or organisation then this is the time you need to be planning to call in MindStore. Take the first step towards preparing for an outstanding FY2012/13 and book an initial appointment today.  Discover the benefits of our in-house MindStore courses to prepare you and your team for an outstanding FY2012/13.

Using our unique processes including the “house on the right bank” you will have access to a range of performance improving mental tools and techniques.  For more information click on the link below from our MindStore international site and look at the entry from March 15 entitled “New Homeowners Supplement”.

Quicksilver Pro and Roxy Pro

Welcome to all our new newsletter members.

Mental Resilience with MindStore

Mental Resilience with MindStore

Over the last week on her morning runs Fiona has seen the build up preparations for the first world surfing tour events of the season, the Quicksilver pro and Roxy pro, which are now underway at our local beach, Snapper Rocks in Coolangatta, www.snapperrocks.com/links.htm
If you would like to follow these events click either of the links below to keep up to date with results, photos and all the action:
http://www.aspworldtour.com/tag/quiksilver-pro-gold-coast http://www.aspworldtour.com/tag/roxy-pro-gold-coast
As any of you surf fans will know it is taken for granted that all surfers on the tour are talented.  The difference between world champions and runners up is mental resilience. As Kelly Slater the world no.1 says “It’s all about where your mind’s at.”
You only have to read the interviews given by Stephanie Gilmore, our local surf world champion, to understand the thinking and mental toughness that makes the difference between extraordinary surfers and ordinary surfers like me.
Here’s another quote from Mick Fanning another local world champion,  “Sometimes surfing this bank from Snapper to Kirra, sometimes you don’t even think what you’re doing… You get to the end of a wave and go, what did I do? Sometimes you go into a totally different state of mind.
All of the top surfers have the desire, belief and expectation that they will achieve their goals. They have a positive mental attitude and take action to enable them to succeed despite any challenges.
The MindStore members who receive this newsletter will notice the strong similarities in the language between these surf coaching comments below, between what top surfers learn and practice consistently, and what you can learn from MindStore.
“Mental training not only helps to overcome most surfing challenges – it also helps you reach the absolute peak of your surfing potential and capabilities – often known as ‘the Zone’, which produces all-time best performances.  The Zone is brought about by learning to allow your all-powerful subconscious to naturally, easily and instinctively co-ordinate your surfing moves, rather than consciously orchestrating each one. Your subconscious mind knows exactly how to perform all of your manoeuvres – perfectly.”
“Visualization – which is regularly running a ‘mental movie’ through your mind of brilliant surfing performances and the various different successful manoeuvres – is one of the most powerful and easy methods for programming your mind for surfing success.”
Just as we do in MindStore to achieve our goals we use our subconscious mind to visualise the moment of our success and constantly replay that image.
If you feel like you or your colleagues could benefit from easy to learn tools and techniques used by world champions surfing lifes sometimes choppy oceans give us a call at MindStore we would love to help.

Fit Mind Fit Body – Achieve your Goals

Achieve your goals with MindStore tools

Following on from last months newsletter about writing down your dreams/goals for 2012 to assist you in achieving them.
This month we feature a popular goal. Most people’s goal is to lose weight, get fitter, stay fit or a combination of all three.  It enables you to be more empowered to achieve your other goals as you feel better and can see the results.
Visualise in the present your goal being achieved.  Have the desire, belief and expectation that you will be able to fit into that smaller size or run that extra mile.
I have seen at first hand my wife Fiona within a few months of having our second son Ewan losing all the “baby weight” and being fitter than ever.  She had the desire, belief and expectation that she would achieve her goal. Using the MindStore tools and techniques she was able to achieve that goal. Even after limited sleep in the first few months she kept going out every morning exercising knowing that it just works.

Common uses for MindStore tools and techniques

As well as all the well known tools for business performance improvement, such as reducing stress, improved communication and effectiveness, achieving work life balance. Here are some personal advantages to using the MindStore tools and techniques:
· Relaxation
· Weight loss
· Giving up smoking
· Pain relief – general, dentist, childbirth
· Fun things – finding ideal space in a car park or a table in a busy restaurant, hailing a taxi.

HAPPY NEW YEAR – Heres to a fantastic 2012!

The world has watched Sydneys spectacular themed display TIME TO DREAM

This re-minded me of how critical it is to make time in our busy lives to Dream, to use our whole brain for greater access to innovation and creativity in our lives.

It also re-minded me to keep my written goals up to date, to view them every day, and to visualise in the present my goals being achieved, even though they have yet to be achieved. This is what we call a FUTURE HISTORY.

Let us be inspired by the fantastic sound and colours of the Sydney NYE Fireworks to enable us to “see” our goals every day in our minds eye, even when they seem furthest away from being achieved.

“Most people give up just when they are about to achieve success. They quit on the one yard line. They give up at the last minute of the game, one foot from a winning touch down.” Ross Perot.

A Whole New Mind – why right brainers will rule the future by Daniel Pink

A new book for a new year about a whole new mind.

This book  was a great read, I didn’t want to put it down. It describes a shift taking place, where we are moving from an economy and society built on logical capabilities of the Information age, to an economy and society built on inventive, empathetic, big picture capabilites, the Conceptual Age.

It is available on Amazon for $11, less than the cost of a fast food lunch, and the content is much more satisfying. For many it highlights what you already felt happening, for others it will be enlightening, challenging and encouraging.

Buy it here:http://www.amazon.com/Whole-New-Mind-Right-Brainers-Future/dp/1594481717

New Years Resolutions

New Years Resolutions gym cartoon

In Scotland, like elsewhere in the world  where the New Year is celebrated on 31st December, we make Resolutions for the New Year.  For many these are made in the heat of the moment and some are given up on before the party aftermath has been cleared away.

As we approach the end of 2011 many people and organisations are looking anxiously to the future with the financial challenges of the eurozone and its potential global impact.

The best way to get out of that negative mindset is to set yourself inspiring goals which motivate you to look forward to 2012 with positive anticipation rather than the opposite.

To make your resolutions or goals for 2012, and beyond, that you will stick with use these key principles:

Write your Goals down– sounds simple but only 4% OF PEOPLE DO THIS, who happen to be the successful ones. Be one of them in 2012.

THINK BIG!– No one leaps out of bed enthusiastically in the morning with a passion for a goal that is “realistic and achievable”

Be less concerned about the HOW of your goals in the beginning.

Be more concerned about the WHY, why you want to achieve your goals. Why will this push all your buttons. Getting a powerful emotional connection to your goal is vital.

Constantly go “back to your future” – Use the power of Gestalt to work for you by repeatedly thinking of and seeing in your “minds eye” the outcome you Desire. An idea held firmly in your subconsious mind will receive the attention of your subconsious mind, which will then manifest in your life. Repetition is the Key.

Have the right Attitude – to succeed with your goals you need  positive control of your Desire, Belief and Expectations.

Armed with the tips you will have given yourself the best chance to set for yourself goals which will last, because you will have a passion to achieve them.

Feel free to contact me if I can help you further with goal setting for 2012.
