Your thoughts and Self Talk determine how you overcome challenges

If you started the year with amazing goals and intentions and have recently been challenged to keep going with them, then take a minute to reflect on the power of your Self Talk.

In my experience many people feel a dip in there goal enthusiasm around 6 weeks into the New Year, so you are not alone!

If we are honest with ourselves, we all have experienced the little voice in our head which talks us easily out of so many opportunities arising from coincidences.

It makes comments like:

“Take the easy option , play it safe mate!”

Don’t say anything, keep quiet, no-one will listen to you in the office meeting”

“Who are you kidding, you could never do that!”

“Let someone else do it”

“Just stay here, don’t approach that person, they’re far to good for you!”

Can you imagine how many relationships that never had a chance to start because of this last phrase in our self talk examples.

Lets commit to thinking about what we do want instead of what we do not want, focus on success, overcome the fear of failure.

To help you do this exercise in a quiet moment at home.

Your thoughts and speech reflect your attitude.

So work to adjust your thoughts and language to positive only.

Exercise: List 7 negative words you use, and then write next to it 7 positive alternative words or phrases you could use.

Then next time you are about to use one of the 7 negative words, remember this exercise in your mind and change it to a positive.

At first it may seem awkward but with practise you become expert at being positive as you begin to rewire your thinking from default mode to postive.

Imagine working your brain muscle and become the more positive energetic person you want to be in business and your personal life. Imagine people commenting on how you are always so positive? How do you do it?

Challenge yourself, to change your Self talk.

It Just Works!

May Newsletter

With less than 70 days till the start of the London 2012 Olympic games and the growing publicity around it, there has been many positive comments about last months newsletter.  This month we focus on Innovation, as May is Innovation month and you may have seen a range of festivals around the country organised to promote Innovation.

This is a busy month for us with Damian speaking at three events in Newcastle, Brisbane and the Gold Coast all as part of Innovation month.

Make May the month to re-member how to be more Innovative and Creative.

Damain and the MindStore Australia Team

How to Harness your creative and innovative Mind

Creativity is often mentioned in the same breath as Innovation.

We know from research that we are at our most creative when we are relaxed. Think about the great ideas you have when you first wake up from sleep, or when you are out walking the dog, or mowing the lawn. The secret is to be able to access that relaxed state of mind at any time of the day when required. At MindStore we call that relaxed state, the Alpha state. You may have heard athletes refer to it as the Zone, or being in the Zone. We have tools and techniques which you can use to access this alpha state to improve your creative thinking.

Innovative thoughts also come from being in that relaxed state of mind. Think of the opposite state, when you are answering two phones, deadlines are approaching, you can feel your stress levels going through the roof!. You haven’t had anything to eat since breakfast, you have a growing to do list and you feel hot and bothered. You may have heard people say ” I cannot hear myself think!

Do you think they can be creative or innovative in this type of environment?

Absolutely not.

When were you last creative?

Here’s a thought: When was the last time you made sand castles? When was the last time you used coloured pens to draw or sketch?

What’s that got to do with anything, you might say? Well we know kids love making sand castles, they also love colouring in or playing in cardboard boxes. It is because they are creative and innovative at that age.

The shame for us adults is that we don’t lose that ability, we are educated to curtail our creativity. We all have the ability to be amazingly creative and innovative. If you don’t believe me find Betty Edwards book ” Drawing on the right side of the Brain” buy it and read it, you will create a drawing or painting you are so proud of you will frame it. I know because I did. So did Fiona and she took Art at high school!

Like so many things in life, the changes that are required start with you. You need to want to, to have the desire, determination and belief to keep going in the face of challenges, to focus on being innovative when you need to develop solutions.

Re-member: we all have an amazing capacity for creativity and innovation we just need to DARE yourself to access it and unleash our potential.

May May be Innovative for you too!

February 2011 Newsletter

Welcome to your February 2011 Newsletter.

Last month you will remember we discussed the importance of the correct POSITIVE ATTITUDE for success in Goal setting. This month we discover a simple technique to use for more positive Self Talk: replacing negative day-to-day language with positive words.

Feel free to forward this to anyone you feel will benefit from reading it.

Enjoy     Damian and the MindStore Australia team

What a crazy start to the year it’s been!  The weather has taken its toll on business, finances, health, attitude, family, social activities, leisure, in fact on almost every aspect of our lives.

How has it affected you? Or rather how have you allowed it to affect you?

Your thoughts and self talk determine how you deal with day to day situations and indeed how you overcome challenges and move on.

Self talk is a vital part of our self confidence.

If we are honest with ourselves we all have experienced the little voice in our head which talks us out of opportunities. You take the easy option and play it safe.

“Don’t make that suggestion at work, they will laugh at you!” Ever had that self talk ? or personally “Don’t go up to  him/ her  and start a conversation, they are not your type?” Ever had that one?

Your Self talk needs to be strong and you have to be aware of it every day and work to use positive self talk at all times.

Over the years MindStore has been lucky enough to work with successful people within the world of business, entertainment and sport.  Without doubt each and every one of them was positive, optimistic and solution orientated – you certainly won’t have heard any of them moaning about the weather!  On the other hand the vast majority of people particularly in our western culture seem to think about what they don’t want, focus on the negative and fear success as much as they fear failure or rejection.

Your thoughts and your speech reflect your attitude.  Your choice of words reflect just how you think and what you think is what you get!  So it’s critical that you adjust your language and your thinking in order to stay positive and programme for success.

I would challenge you to make a list of 7 negative words or phrases you know you use, and then write down opposite them 7 positive alternative words or phrases. Then whenever you would use one of the negative words, be aware of this and replace it with a positive alternative.

Remember all change starts with you, imagine your brain is a muscle and this is you working that muscle to become more positive and energetic in your business and personal life.

Have a marvellous month!

Warm regards

Damian
