Your thoughts and Self Talk determine how you overcome challenges

As you may remember our last update focused as many people do on Goals to kick off 2015.

As we go through February lets learn some tips to stay positive and focused on our goals.

Thank you for making the time to read this, and I encourage you to look into our mental tools for improving performance for you personally and for the people in your organisation.

Have a Fantastic February!

Damian and the team at MindStore Australia.

P.S. Remember you can share these positive updates with colleagues, friends and family who you think would appreciate them.

Your thoughts and Self Talk determine how you overcome challenges

istockphoto

If you started the year with amazing goals and intentions and have recently been challenged to keep going with them, then take a minute to reflect on the power of your Self Talk.

In my experience many people feel a dip in there goal enthusiasm around 6 weeks into the New Year, so you are not alone!

If we are honest with ourselves, we all have experienced the little voice in our head which talks us easily out of so many opportunities arising from coincidences.

It makes comments like:

“Take the easy option , play it safe mate!”

Don’t say anything, keep quiet, no-one will listen to you in the office meeting”

“Who are you kidding, you could never do that!”

“Let someone else do it”

“Just stay here, don’t approach that person, they’re far to good for you!”

Can you imagine how many relationships that never had a chance to start because of this last phrase in our self talk examples.

Lets commit to thinking about what we do want instead of what we do not want, focus on success, overcome the fear of failure.

To help you do this exercise in a quiet moment at home.

Your thoughts and speech reflect your attitude.

So work to adjust your thoughts and language to positive only.

Exercise: List 7 negative words you use, and then write next to it 7 positive alternative words or phrases you could use.

Then next time you are about to use one of the 7 negative words, remember this exercise in your mind and change it to a positive.

At first it may seem awkward but with practise you become expert at being positive as you begin to rewire your thinking from default mode to postive.

Imagine working your brain muscle and become the more positive energetic person you want to be in business and your personal life. Imagine people commenting on how you are always so positive? How do you do it?

Challenge yourself, to change your Self talk.

It Just Works!

At MindStore we are passionate about helping everyone to rekindle that way of thinking to improve performance from Ordinary to Extraordinary,so think about contacting us to be involved in your next Learning and Development event.

Are you too busy to make time for yourself?

istockphoto

This is a busy time of the year for everyone personally and in business. However learn from the picture above.

Unlike the jolly guy in the red suit above, always take your time, look out and be prepared mentally and physically for any unexpected events!

As the holiday season approaches like a jet plane!, we find ourselves reflecting on the past year and those who have helped to shape our year and our business. It has been a fantastic year for us all at MindStore. We trust that 2014 has been just as memorable for you, your colleagues and your loved ones. We look forward to working with you in the years to come.

We wish you all the happiest of holiday seasons and good health throughout 2015.

Thank you for making the time to read this.

Best wishes for the holiday season to you all!

Damian and the team at MindStore Australia.

Are you too Busy to make time for yourself?

istockphoto

As we go head long into the season of goodwill to all men (and women!) we can find ourselves focusing on others needs, wants and desires so much that come 26th December we feel exhausted!

If this sounds familiar, then decide to make changes.

Decide to share goodwill with yourself, book time for you.

 THINKING TIME

Take yourself off to a place of relaxation for you with a blank notepad and pen and start to think about your year.

Remember the great goals and plans you had in the first week of January, reflect on how they often slipped, why was that?  what could you do better next year?

Reflect on your year, learn from its lessons and then decide to make 2015 better.

Start now by asking for a copy of our planner, go through it and follow the process. Then commit to it, make a promise to yourself that this time next year you will be reflecting on a list of written down goals and you can see yourself in your imagination ticking them all off, because if you have a written down plan and you are committed to sticking to it, then you will get the results you desire. That’s just how it works.

At MindStore we are passionate about helping everyone to rekindle simple ways of thinking to improve performance from Ordinary to Extraordinary.

Movember Performance Improvement Update

As you may remember our last update focused Siezing the Day “CARPE DIEM”

Many of you commented on watching Robin Williams in the powerful clip Poets Society.

This month we have an introduction to the House on the Right Bank, a classic MindStore tool and foundation of so many other techniques.

To all the Movember participants, keep trimming!

Thank you for making the time to read this, and I encourage you to look into our mental tools for improving your performance personally and for the people in your organisation.

Have a Magnificent Movember!

House on the Right Bank

This Phrase ” House on the right bank” or (HORB) is a very familiar phrase to those who have attended MindStore events over the last 25 years.

This is the place, in your imagination where you go to when ever you want and no one will know. Here you can visit this landscape and create your own house using your imagination with no limitations on size or finance.

This is a place you will have a desire to go to:

to set yourself up for your day

to prepare mentally ahead of all meetings at work

to destress and relax

to see your amazing goals achieved

All of this is done in your head using your imagination, it does not matter whether your learning style is Visual, Audio or Kinesthetic, you learn to do this using our interactive tools and techniques.

If you think this is out there and different, then you are right. Einstein said two things, one is that “Imagination is more important than knowledge” and this is what  we are using in these tools.

Secondly he said that “we can not solve our problems with the same level of thinking that created them”.

So what we do is deliberately designed to be different, out of the ordinary, because if the ordinary things we have done in the past still worked we would all be doing much better.

At MindStore we are passionate about helping everyone to rekindle that way of thinking to improve performance from Ordinary to Extraordinary,so think about contacting us to be involved in your next Learning and Development event.

* I have deliberately omitted an image of a house on a right bank of a river because everyones house is uniquely created by them, some do not see it but can feel its surfaces, all are unique and inspiring to the indivdual.

Upper Lip Topiary Time

Movember 2012 Newsletter

Welcome

Last month as you may remember was about daring to dream and having a passion for your Goals. This month with all the US Electoral campaigning I thought I would pick up on some of the power of language both positive and negative and how it influences how we speak and are heard by our collegues friends and loved ones.

Plus see the book of the month a new comic strip version of Napolean Hills Classic, Think and Grow Rich.
Thanks for making the time to read this, I appreciate it’s one of many in your inbox. We always aim to make your time reading it inspiring, motivational, worthwhile and give you something to think about and hopefully take some action too!

Have an Magnificent Movember from Damian P.I. and the MindStore Australia Team

Powerful Positive Phrases

Recently with a group we were getting creative and visualising a bold new future for their company. It was amazing to hear the creativity in the room, people creating a Future History as we say at MindStore.
This exercise came back to me when watching the last Election debate with Barack Obama and Mitt Romney. During the questions Mitt repeatedly said ” If I am president I would….” where as Barack was saying ” As your president the first thing I will do is…”
Barack has also been asked for months now “Do you think you’ll get a second term?” and instantly with energy he responds “Yes, absolutely, I will still be president after November 2012”
This language I believe suggests that Mitt is not visualising being President, his goal and visualisation is not of him sitting at the desk in the oval office. His language lets you know his thoughts, he thinks it’s a maybe, an IF.
Don’t let your language talk you out of your goals and aspirations.
Barack on the other hand by his language is running a visualisation of his goal with the benefits he can bring to USA and the world as President for another term. He absolutely believes that he will be President again, as Henry Ford said “If you think you can do a thing or think you cannot, you’re absolutely right.”
Barack also said about change:
“Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time, We are the ones we’ve been waiting for, we are the change that we seek.”
If you would like to know more about the creation of useful mental habits, and improving performance through simple mental tools and techniques then give us a call at MindStore. We would be glad to arrange a time to have a conversation.
We are in the last quarter of 2012. What have you or your teams achieved in the field of personal development and growth so far? How are your Goals or resolutions for 2012 progressing? If like many people you could be doing more, then make time now to find out how MindStores toolkit will help your people access simple tools to improve the performance and leadership skills of their teams, departments and the organisation as a whole.
Remember by empowering people you transform organisations.
At MindStore we fundamanentally believe that “All performance is due to the quality of our thinking”.
Dare yourself to unleash more of the amazing capacity you and your teams have inside yourselves to improve your performance and to do be and have more in your business and personal lives.

Book Review Corner

Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill

Most of you will have read or heard about this classic book. Inspired by Andrew Carnegie the great Scottish born American business man and published during the great depression in USA in 1937.
The reason for highlighting this book is that people are constantly sharing how busy they are, and that its challenging to make time to read personal development books. So this caught my eye as it is an animated version of the book, in a comic strip type setup. It takes 1 hour to read versus 20 hours as a normal book and the images are great to help the Visual people remember the key points.

I believe it is worth a look at the website and for the cost of a few coffees it could be a great quick read when on the commute to work, or as an alternative to the negative filled newspapers at lunch. Have a look see what you think.
Click on link below for the animated book details and access to a free sample chapter:

And Finally…………Don’t Dream of Growing that!!

Inspired by last months newsletter Dare to Dream, I woke up at weekend having visualised me in Movemeber. My wife, Fiona’s comment was “Don’t dream of growing that!” Napolean Hill said start every day with a hearty laugh, programming your brain to be positive. This sure made Fiona laugh when she saw it.
Congratulations to all of those braver than me, taking part in the movember challenge.

Until next time, thanks again for taking time out in your day to read this newsletter or share it with colleagues, we trust you found something of interest.

Minds are like parachute’s…..

istockphoto
“Minds
are like parachutes… they only function when open!”
This
quote comes from Thomas Dewar the Scotch whisky distiller.
Last
month was about the Crazy ones, so this month the message is don’t be crazy and
resist changes, open your mind. That reminds me of a recent advert I saw:
“Parachute
for sale. Only used once.
Never opened. Small Stain”.
This
month its about going forward into the new Financial Year with a new sense of
optimism and the knowing that the ability to be more Resilient is within
you.
So
open your mind to some new thinking and pick up a few Resilience tips from us
today.
Thank
you for chosing to make the time to read our Newsletter, we appreciate that it’s
one of many in your Inbox.
Have
a Marvellous July.

Resilience Tips: Respond to change with confidence and
flexibility, Don’t sweat the small stuff, Perform well with the big stuff,
Recover from setbacks and move on.

istockphoto
Resilience
was the topic yesterday at a presentation as well as MindStore’s tools and
techniques to develop Resilience. The night before was the State of Origin
decider and I had thoughts to mention the Blues Resilience as they were going so
well, until the last 5 minutes. So I had to adapt and change as a result of the
result!
This
morning I noticed how windy it was today and that the palm trees just flex with
the wind, whereas the larger trees resisted the wind. This got me thinking about
Resilience.
Whenever
the recent tornados struck in the USA, houses were ripped out of their
foundations and all that was left were the palm trees in the front yards.
It
made me think we are like that, we attempt to weather the winds of change, to be
inflexible to changes and to resist them with all our energy, until it is too
much for us and we break. Why put oursleves through this, look at natures palm
trees and how they adapt to the changing winds. Once the winds abate they just
pop right up straight again and continue to flourish.
So
when you are faced with unexpected hurricaine winds, that destroy your
confidence and force challenging situations on to you.  Remember be like a
parachute, open your mind, then flexibly adapt to the changes around you and be
like a palm tree.
Einstein
said “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we
created them.” so if your current approach to a situation no longer works,
discover how to learn to think differently. Being Resilient gives you the
ability to quickly adjust your actions and respond with confidence to the new
situation.
As
we kick start the new financial year, lets make the time and financial
commitments to learn and develop ourselves, our colleagues and our teams. Learn
and utilise some of MindStore’s effective Resilience tools and techniques. To
find out how our services could be of benefit in your organisation please

a Marvellous July!

May Newsletter

With less than 70 days till the start of the London 2012 Olympic games and the growing publicity around it, there has been many positive comments about last months newsletter.  This month we focus on Innovation, as May is Innovation month and you may have seen a range of festivals around the country organised to promote Innovation.

This is a busy month for us with Damian speaking at three events in Newcastle, Brisbane and the Gold Coast all as part of Innovation month.

Make May the month to re-member how to be more Innovative and Creative.

Damain and the MindStore Australia Team

How to Harness your creative and innovative Mind

Creativity is often mentioned in the same breath as Innovation.

We know from research that we are at our most creative when we are relaxed. Think about the great ideas you have when you first wake up from sleep, or when you are out walking the dog, or mowing the lawn. The secret is to be able to access that relaxed state of mind at any time of the day when required. At MindStore we call that relaxed state, the Alpha state. You may have heard athletes refer to it as the Zone, or being in the Zone. We have tools and techniques which you can use to access this alpha state to improve your creative thinking.

Innovative thoughts also come from being in that relaxed state of mind. Think of the opposite state, when you are answering two phones, deadlines are approaching, you can feel your stress levels going through the roof!. You haven’t had anything to eat since breakfast, you have a growing to do list and you feel hot and bothered. You may have heard people say ” I cannot hear myself think!

Do you think they can be creative or innovative in this type of environment?

Absolutely not.

When were you last creative?

Here’s a thought: When was the last time you made sand castles? When was the last time you used coloured pens to draw or sketch?

What’s that got to do with anything, you might say? Well we know kids love making sand castles, they also love colouring in or playing in cardboard boxes. It is because they are creative and innovative at that age.

The shame for us adults is that we don’t lose that ability, we are educated to curtail our creativity. We all have the ability to be amazingly creative and innovative. If you don’t believe me find Betty Edwards book ” Drawing on the right side of the Brain” buy it and read it, you will create a drawing or painting you are so proud of you will frame it. I know because I did. So did Fiona and she took Art at high school!

http://www.amazon.com/The-Drawing-Right-Side-Brain/dp/0874774241

Like so many things in life, the changes that are required start with you. You need to want to, to have the desire, determination and belief to keep going in the face of challenges, to focus on being innovative when you need to develop solutions.

Re-member: we all have an amazing capacity for creativity and innovation we just need to DARE yourself to access it and unleash our potential.

May May be Innovative for you too!

Why MindStore Works… It seems it only works!

Why MindStore Works…It Seems It Only Works!

April 18th, 2012 Article supplied by Jack Black – founder of MindStore

The other day Stephen sent me a copy of a piece in Sundays Telegraph Magazine, thought you might be interested in it?

The basis of the article is that recent discoveries from scientists back up the approaches that we take in MindStore. In particular there has been a discovery of a part of the brain that develops after childhood that in effect inhibits us from “letting go and unleashing our creativity”

All of us apparently possess a vast reservoir of untapped creativity. The article quotes Picasso “Every child is an artist; the problem is how to remain one once we grow up.” It turns out that this recent research proves Picasso right. The final part of the brain to develop actually inhibits our creativity. It helps explain the effortless creativity of young children before their brains mature and the sensors of inhibition are established.

It seems that in order to be better problem solvers and unleash our creativity, we need to learn to inhibit our inhibitions. If Picasso was still with us we could show him how, and even the scientists are now able to prove to him exactly why MindStore works.

The article has an insert that reads as follows:

How to have a Eureka Moment

Take a break

Why did Archimedes have his breakthrough in the bath? Moments of insight are always proceded by a steady rhythm of Alpha waves (induced by relaxing activities) from the brains right hemisphere.

Cheer Up

Studies show happy people solve 25% more “insight” puzzles than unhappy ones. Even fleeting moments of delight can prompt more epiphanies

Stay In Bed

Shortly after wakening is ideal for insights as the drowsy brain is unwound and open to unconventional ideas.

Ditch the Drugs

Stimulants such as caffeine increase our attention (WH Auden edited his poetry for hours, high on Benzedrine) but make epiphanies less likely as they shift attention away from the right hemisphere and its ”remote associations”

Further the main article ends with an experiment lead by the psychologist Michael Robinson apparently he randomly assigned a few hundred under graduates to two different groups. The first was given the following instructions:

“You are 7 years old and school is cancelled. You have the entire day to yourself. What would you do? Where would you go? Who would you see?”

The second was given the same instructions, with the first sentence deleted. These students didn’t imagine themselves as 7 year olds.

After writing for 10 minutes, the subjects in both groups were then given various tests of creativity, such as trying to invent alternative uses for an old car tyre. The students who imagined themselves as young kids scored far more highly, coming up with twice as many ideas as the other group. It turns out that we can recover the creativity we have lost with time. We just have to pretend we’re little kids.

By using the repeatedly tried and tested methods of MindStore, we reach into that part of the brain we worked so well as children. We even have a playground and a playhouse to enter. We have endless uninhibited fun where we can meet inner “friends” with which to imagine all manner of things. We ultimately release our innate creativity and intuition to find breakthroughs and solutions that otherwise would not emerge into our consciousness.

What you and I need to do is to purposefully inhibit our inhibitions and become childlike again to do so all you need to do is….

Find a comfortable position; Close your eyes, Take three deep breaths etc. etc. etc.

October Newsletter

Welcome to your October 2011 Newsletter

Last month you will remember we discussed that life is a series of decisions or choices, well this month following on from that if you ever wished you could improve your draw technique above that which you had when you left school then decide to get this book. Believe me after a few hours with this book, I even framed my first drawing.

Forgive the delay in sending the newsletter this month as I wanted to include news about our MindStore Conference which ended on 15th of October.

As always feel free to forward this to anyone you feel would benefit from reading it.

Enjoy and have an Awesome remainder of October!

Damian and the MindStore Australia team

MindStore International Conference

I am inspired having just returned from our MindStore Conference held at our MindStore Institute in Stuttgart, Germany. Had a fantastic time with the founder Jack Back and other MindStore associates from around the world.

Came away with many new techniques and tools which are being introduced to make MindStore even more cutting edge and a true leader in its field. I am so excited and motivated to share these with you in the future, as space is limited in this newsletter.

The contributions from Klaus in Germany and also Marvin in France were amazing, we truly have a fantastic team of people on board doing amazing work in-house with businesses around the world and also transforming individuals lives too.

Workplace Stress a major challenge new report reminds us

While over in the UK this month I came across this article on Stress:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2045309/Stress-Top-cause-workplace-sickness-dubbed-Black-Death-21st-century.html

Many of us know about stress and its impact on our personal health and on an organisations effectiveness, but how many of us seek out and utilise the effective and powerful tools and techniques available to build resilience to stress and the other negative impacts in the workplace. Why not contact MindStore to arrange a meeting to discuss the benefits of specifc inhouse programmes which can be provided by your orgnaisation for the most important part of your business THE HUMAN BEINGS in it.

We all know if we take time out to think about it that any project no matter how complex or challenging only happens when the humans involved make it happen.

As an international organisation MindStore has over the last 21 years worked with over a half of the Footsie 100 ‘s largest companies aorund the world. Our extraordinary tools and techniques absolutely enable individuals to manage Stress. It just works and we have countless inspiring stories about how our tools have helped individuals who were suffering from Stress. To bring everyone to a point of balance free from stress and urgency and therefore the ability to make the correct decisions.
Think about it, it just isn’t good enough anymore for all of us to be rushing around up to our necks in demands and schedules, yet still expect to make good decisions and choices. Many of these directly impact our lives but, more importantly, can in many cases influence the lives of countless others in our organizations and wider industry.
Ancient wisdom tells us to slow down and regularly take time for peace and quiet, not only to manage our stress but for taking time out to find balance and clarity.
Clearly, if we commit to learn to build into our busy schedules time to take stock and relax we will all perform much better. Even just taking time out to actually stop and think is relatively rare in the modern age. I strongly recommend that you find your own way of doing so. Better decisions make for a better life.

Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain

First published in 1979 this fantastic book initially explains the differences of the two hemispheres of the brain in perception and drawing. This follows on from the Nobel Prize winning research carried out by Roger Sperry and others in the late 1960’s. There is a new version which is also available with updated text. ISBN:0874774241. Within a few hours of sitting down and reading this book and doing the exercises, I was able to draw an apple on a chair, that in my view was so fantastic that I was inspired to sign and frame it. It is amazing. This book continues to be recommended at MindStore Courses around the world as additional personal development reading to participants. I would recommend you source a copy.

Enjoy.

August 2011 Newsletter- Synchronicity or just a coincidence?

Last month you will remember was the Health and Wellbeing Issue.

A new feature for our newsletter is a book review, following emails from readers. This month we review a book which sold over 20 million copies from the author James Redfield, The Celestine Prophecy -An Adventure.

As always feel free to forward this to anyone you feel would benefit from reading it.

STOP PRESS: James Redfield was due to arrive in Australia from USA this week to present at the Byron Bay Writers Festival this weekend 5th-7th August, http://www.byronbaywritersfestival.com.au/v2/index.php

I just received a confirmation that he is unable to fly on medical grounds and has unfortunately had to stay at home. We wish him a speedy recovery.

Enjoy and have an Awesome August!

Damian and the MindStore Australia team

Carl Jung the Swiss psychologist first used this term to explain the coincidence of events that seem related, but are not obviously caused one by the other. Is it coincidence that the two whales breach out of the water at the same time in the image above? Is it a coincidence when you know who is phoning you before you even look at the caller display?

What about when you have a particular challenge at work or personally, and someone contacts you out of the blue, and in your discussion they come up with ideas that you realise will help to solve the challenge, just at the right time.

It’s about becoming more aware, a higher level of awareness, an intuition, gut feeling, whatever you may call it.

These synchronistic events are happening for most people on a daily basis but most of us are so tuned into our problems(Delete that) Challenges, and worried about the past or about the future , that we do not recognise the synchronicities when they appear.

This is partly because of our individual vibrational frequency. Each of us vibrates at a certain level, the more positive and happy the person in outlook the higher the vibration. The negative, unhappy, angry people operate on a lower vibrational frequency.

If you are interested in this topic then please drop me an email. This is one of the many topics we cover on our MindStore events either inhouse for clients or in an open format. We can share with you the tools to become more aware of these syncronistic events, to raise your frequency levels, via tools for protecting yourself from negativity and in particular negative self talk and thoughts. Also tools for improving your energy, creating positive thoughts and by relaxation exercises. The Celestine Prophecy- An Adventure

First published in 1993 and reprinted many times since. It is available in 34 languages.

The main character of the novel undertakes a journey to find and understand a series of nine spiritual insights contained in an ancient manuscipt in Peru. If you are aware of those chance events that occur at just the right moment, and bring forth just the right individuals, to suddenly send your life in a new and important direction, then you will like this book.ISBN:0-446-51862-X. For more info and other books from James visit: http://www.celestinevision.com/

I first came across this book by coincidence when travelling in Asia in 1995, it was raved about by other backpackers and passed on to each other. Is it a coincidence that peole who went backpacking aorund the world on “a year out” were maybe looking to discover something about their lifes journey and this book was brought to their attention by coincidence? I believe it was Synchronicity which put me amongst people who read this book and encouraged me to read it. It started me on a journey to where I am today. It has been recommended at MindStore Courses as additional personal development reading to participants for over 13 years!

Enjoy.
